We visited here on Tuesday 3rd May 2016, we had a gig to go to Jeffrey Lewis supported by Rozi Plain at the Wheatsheaf which is more centrally located in town. The Head of the River is as one might guess on the River Thames or Isis and is about 6-7 minutes walk down St Aldates past Christchurch and the Police station, court etc and by the bridge.

Its located in a bit of a touristy trap as already stated its near to Christchurch and at the end of Christchurch meadow, there is a large patio area between the front of the pub and bridge that faces right onto the river. The pub is a large Fullers pub that relies on a passing tourist trade as opposed to many locals, as you enter there are two levels with the bottom level (nearer the river) where the main bar is.

The beer choice is pretty poor really, the usual Fullers standards with Scholar as a guest option, it was empty inside and the best seats outside had already been bagged by those trying to get the early evening last of the sunshine. I used to quite like this place but it offers little to me nowadays other than being at one end of one of Oxfords loveliest City Centre walks with wonderful backdrops, alongside the river and meadow that links this part of town with Magdalen Bridge and the River Cherwell

Tried to have a beer here while on vacation. Was hardly a customer in the place. Plenty of waiters on staff. Waited 10 minutes to be served. Finally left to go to another pub.

Food was very good. Only had 9 taps of cask ales and then some macro stuff. Nice place. A bit touristy though.

A nice view from the terrace to the river to have some Fullerís beers (20.6.2009).

The location is the winner for this place, right on the banks of the River Thames with a nice and big terrace. Has a typical Fullerís managed feel inside and on a hot day when the terrace is busy there is a long queue to the under staffed bar. Typical selection on offer, but nothing out of the ordinary and I had a sense they know most punters wonít be in the area for long. I wish there was an off-license near by so you could buy a bottle of beer and sit by the University Park instead of queuing up feeling like a battery chicken on their packed terrace.

Big patio by the Thames. Bar is also spacious. Itís more for eating than plain drinking. 6 casks. Children friendly. Food was OK. Quite expensive (pint of Blue Moon £4.50).

Fullers Pub down by the river in Oxford. Went there on a busy Saturday afternoon. Packed full of tourists and young families. They do food but we did not stay for any. The ESB made up for a disappointing experience.
