92 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 changeup45 (100) Mount Dora, Florida | June 25, 2010| Updated January 13, 2011 Just a quick update: I’ve now ordered from these guys several times, they seem to be my online retailer of choice these days, and I can’t understate how easy they are to deal with. I’ve also been able to buy a few things from them I didn’t think I’d get anywhere. Original rating: Based on a couple of online orders. Both experiences were very pleasant. Excellent service; Rami, Dave and Nate are super-friendly and a pleasure to deal with. Their website, or blog, gets the job done once you’ve gotten used to it. As far as online selection and quality, I’d put these guys up against anyone. A great West Coast selection with the Alesmith’s, LA, Russian River, etc, and even some breweries I don’t generally see elsewhere such as Valley, Midnight Sun, and Marin. Shipping from San Fran to FL and packaging costs will drive up the total price quite a bit but that’s to be expected. I’ll order from them again for sure. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 lusikka (32) Tampere, Finland | May 19, 2013| Updated January 13, 2011 Oct 2012. Visited by accident. Classic US high-end beers with some of the best Danish and Belgian beers. One of the best bottle selections in SF, but in my opinion not as good as Coit Liquors. Healthy spirits indeed. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 t0rin0 (184) La Verne, California | March 20, 2013| Updated January 13, 2011 Stopped in 4 or 5 times since 2007.
The first time I stopped here was completely by accident. Decided to walk all the way from 16th/Mission BART to Magnolia and took a shortcut up Castro to 15th. Saw the Chimay sign sticking out and decided to stop in. Neat place for sure. I decided to limit myself to one bottle since I had several miles left to walk and got the Urthel Samaranth. Since then I come back every other year or so and pick up something interesting or just some Russian River stuff.
The service is very nice and even though they "only" have a couple of doors of beer it’s a good selection. Prices can be a bit higher than average but not by all that much. Will continue to (occasionally) give them some business. Its also not all that far from Toronado if you’re walking around the city. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 bvc (61) Kenmore, Washington | February 16, 2013| Updated January 13, 2011 Visited during SF beer week on my way out of town. Older small store that is very specialized with many bottles I didn’t find anywhere else on my travels. Nice array of imported stuff and some well thought out local selections. Quite a nice and also well thought out selection of liquor that is mostly bourbon, with some rye, tequila, mescal, and rum. Small but decent selection of glassware. Store was maned by a single employee, but he was super nice and very knowledgeable when he and I chatted up rye whiskey. Prices were a bit high, but not absurd. Had I not already had pretty much a full bag to check or if I had planned on buying more bottles, there were several things here I would had bought. Cool little shop that really feels like SF. | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 Kristophe (61) , Sweden | February 7, 2013 My favorite bottle shop in San Francisco. Amazing selection of beers and super cool staff. Talked for a while about European beers and they really know their beers. Would recommend this place to anyone. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 bytemesis (221) Sunnyvale, California | November 23, 2012 Small place, most of their beer is in coolers. Pretty interesting and eclectic selection for the size of the place, including a bunch of 2010 Schaerbeekse Kriek. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable; obviously knows his beer and wants to help. Prices pretty high compared to City Beer, but the selection is better, so i guess you get what you pay for. | 96 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 Jimmythespoon (59) , Cyprus | November 22, 2012 Amazing beer store. They have everything. As well as great bourbon selection. The guys are also upper helpful and know what they are talking about. Thanks for tolerating me even though I was so drunk when I came in there. World class place. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Iphonephan (77) Virginia | October 8, 2012 Quite a nice small shop wit an impressive selection. Knowledgable and helpful proprietor. Worth a visit | 82 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20 Atheist_Peace (21) Halifax, Nova Scotia | October 5, 2012 Well the ambiance here kind of sucks, which can be expected since it’s mostly just a corner store but other than that this place fuckin’ rocks. The service was great. Two guys talked to me the whole time I was in the store, even though they had other customers coming and going and there was only one more guy working. They’ve also got the best selection I saw anywhere in SF, hands down. Some stuff with a little age on it and everything. The prices were a notch higher than I saw elsewhere but still not obscene by any means.
| 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 womencantsail (390) Garbage Grove, California | August 3, 2012 "The other" well known bottle shop in the City. A bit more expensive, somehow, but really good selection. Helpful staff, most of the beer is stored in coolers, limited releases, and I think they have a beer club of some sort (for locals). | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 joeneugs (89) Livermore, California | July 4, 2012 I stopped in here during San Francisco beer week to pick up a rare High Water release. I was shocked at how small the place is. It’s tucked away in a more residential area and you wouldn’t really know it’s a great beer store from the outside. Inside they have quite a bit of cold storage with minimal shelf space. The selection was very good, just not huge. The employee there seemed to know his stuff. The only problem is that it’s kind of off the beaten path away from the BART line, and I don’t know if it’s really worth going out of your way for if you live near some of the other great beer stores. They do get some rare releases that other stores won’t, especially during San Francisco beer week. |
