68 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Theydon_Bois (372) The ’Sham, England | March 16, 2013 Visited during Hilden Fest ’12, 25/08/12.
The tap room is open all day for this event as are other temporary bars.
Set in the grounds of a stately home along a leafy lane you’d be forgiven for thinking how close you were to the Belfast/Lisburn metropolis.
3 cask lines of Hildens beers (pretty average stuff) were availble as were 4 or 5 different bottled beers to take away including most of the College Green series.
If you’re in the area well worth a visit as Northern Ireland is a bit of a good beer desert but if you really want to hit on the Hilden tap room combine it with Hilden fest which is usually the last weekend of August.
Only 5 or so minutes walk from Hilden railway station and perhaps 15 from Lisburn itself. Easy enough access from the main Dublin - Belfast road (just under 10 minutes drive away).
Ambiance set as 5 as Hilden Fest was booming - although I’d expect lower on an average day. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Beersiveknown (36) , Northern Ireland | May 8, 2011 The tap room of the Hilden Brewery. Located in the grounds of a stately home it is possible to watch the brewers at work from the terrace outside the resturant. A good menu offering seasonal specials and much the same standard fare as is available at Molly’s Yard. Serving most of the Hilden Range and offering bottled ale packs for takeaway. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 douglas88 (141) Salt Lake City, Utah | September 13, 2010 What a gem. An old mill and barn converted to a brewery, restaurant and the owner of the place lives right there. A nice open yard in the back to have beer. Awesome food, good prices, very quaint and top notch food. About 5 Hilden beers available. Two on cask. Very nice. This is a place to take the wife. Very quiet and beautiful. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 cellar (5) Dublin, Ireland | August 4, 2008 This place is great. Really nice surprise to step in from the yard and enter in to this fine and warm restaurant. Went there for lunch to taste their own brew, and got free samples. Food was good, home cooked, and service was excellent. Only one other table was occupied, so lacked a bit of atmosphere. On the other hand it was easy and quiet. As far as I could see they only had their own brew, which was very good. |
