Checked this one off the fermentation bucket list today. Fun drive up a dirt road, wondering if Google Maps was just screwing with me. Lots of construction going on (more on that later). Arrived on a warm Tuesday afternoon at a little after 2:00. There were about 15 people in front of me and it took a little over 1 hour to get a few growlers and a bunch of bottles. No complaints, however, they ran a really nice, tight ship. $5 for 4 2oz tasting pours made the time go by much faster. A creepy old dude came in after I had been waiting about 50 minutes and asked if he could just buy a few bottles. The person working there went back to check that they had enough bottles to cover everyone already in line (Madness and Civilization #4). That was cool. Expensive. It was quite fun! The new construction is a new retail area (with cellar storage underneath) and slated to be finished by October. Will be even nicer then, and perhaps they will take credit cards then! Bring cash or be prepared to cry many, many tears.

I have visited the place a few times over the past 4 years. Last time was for the E. release. We showed up at 10:45 am, it was pretty darn cold up in the hills. Doors were opened at 12 :15….. 15-20 people in front of us with multiples growlers (no respect here for the 3 growlers policy ? Please respect your own policy !!!!!). Staff who is always nice seems overwhelmed with the crowd, not prepared and disorganized. Please Hill Farmstead, try to learn how to be efficient…. A little respect for people who are driving hours to get to the number 1 brewery in the world…. Suggestion for growlers when you know it’s gonna be jam pack with geeks, can you prepare a bunch in advance? Anyway, I hate your system, but I love your overpriced beers.

Perfect beers. Great service. Great prices. Only complaint is the distance, but it’s worth every second, every time I visit. Every time I go there, I can’t wait to go back.

This is all about the experience. There is nothing like rolling up the dirt road to a barn and having some of the best beer you’ve ever had. I’m torn on the service rating because on the one hand, I waited two hours to get my beer. But I can’t complain about getting four samples while standing in beautiful northern Vermont. And I think the wait is worth it for the quality of the beer.

out in middle of nowhere, cool place under construction. Long slow moving lines for bottle & growlers. Aweome idea to offer samplers while in line. Girl, who i believe to be sean Hill’s sister was amazing, right on top of everything. Line was slow, but everyone there was friendlY 7 and that made the time worth it. Maybe a bathroom for the public rather than the porto potty in a snow drift would be nice. Beer speaks for itself

I have been up to Hill Farmstead multiple times for fills and bottles and to one festival. I try to go on Wednesday or Thursday to avoid the crowds. Phil and Kerry are awesome and seem to enjoy chatting up the visitors and serving some of the best beer in the world. Shawn is usually busy tending to his brews, and it smells like heaven in there depending on what the days recipe is. Very small inside and can only accommodate 15-20 customers at a time, unless its in the summer and the door is open. Very rural setting, but very beautiful. Timed right you can get your beer quickly and enjoy tasters, but I have been up in about 6 months. Travel is easy in the summer, but can get sketchy in winter and spring when its muddy/snowy/icey.

It’s a beautiful drive getting here, and it’s set in a beautiful location in a rustic barn. That’s the end of the postives (oh yeah, except for the best beer in the world). You’re going to wait at least an hour for a growler fill or bottle, there’s no food (which is OK in my book), no lounge. Just a line to get tastings and your bottle. Fills are reasonably priced, they make fantastic beer and put a lot of expensive ingredients in them. I honestly prefer getting pours at Blackback or Prohibition Pig than coming here, but it’s worth making the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once.
