Place was fairly difficult to find, Roads were certianly not too anyones liking, Some else mentioned it as well, really watch out for a bridge at a bottom of a little hill on the way there and out, it doesnt look like it but there is a really nasty bump in the road and certianly put some ware on my suspension because of it. worse on the way out and it does depend on the way you take, but just beware. anyways about the brewery it self, it is a neat bar that they have renovated nicely to allow for a tap room and overall its a nice place and the beers a good. If your will to make the treck through the roads its prob worth your while but the road was something and its really not close to anything. but i am sure thats part of the draw and it is an interesting place for the beer world.

Updated 8/13/2012. Previous sins have been washed away by the excellence of the recent Festival of Farmhouse Ales. It was easily one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to, incredibly well managed, well supplied with beer and food, and just a beautifully peaceful time. The setting is unparalleled. I should give Shaun a break for his first year and some of the bumps that he went through, because this festival was impeccable.
Original review. Love the concept of a remote, farmhouse style brewery, but was a little underwhelmed with the facilities and attitude of the brewer. Stopped in and had a full tour of the brews, which we all quite good. The unfinished building was very messy and hoarded by flies that made standing in the brewery a nuisance, which meant little opportunity to talk to the brewer, since he was in there dealing with the light, but steady trickle of traffic. He spent most of his time ignoring things people said to him and texting on his phone. When he did have things to say they were showed a bit of an ego and were often snotty and dismissive. He wasn’t downright rude, but it was easy to tell that he was full of himself and was far from humble. It really put me off, which is too bad, because the beers are good and the rural setting is beautiful. Also, get an f-in’ public crapper if you’re going to have people visit you this far out in the woods.

Hard to rate this one, as I can’t really rate the Festival of Harvest ales selection which is what I got to sample. There are several great beers available on tap or in bottle, but what you get is a crap shoot (well, it is listed online, but it’s not like many people can just come here at any time!). Great agrarian location. Great people. A bit too many rules maybe, which make it inconvenient regarding some things. If I lived nearby, I would come here at least twice a week for growlers.

This was the primary destination of a 4,000+ mile motorcycle East-Coast brewery trip. THANK GOD for GPS and the dirt roads were a bit nasty on a bike, but arriving at the metal shed/brewery made it ALL WORTH IT. Shaun was exceptionally nice and conversational which only added to the experience. The more I stayed and drank, the more I realized that the building is just a building, it’s the beer that is important. Somehow, maybe it was all the beer I drank, the metal building became charming! Great selection of HIll Farmstead beers on tap, all of which are exceptional. If you claim to like beer, and haven’t made the trip to visit Shaun at Hill Farmstead, SHAME ON YOU!

This is a biased review but I don’t care. Shaun showed me a really good time when I visited the brewery last weekend. Amazing place in the middle of nowhere. I’ve never had a HF beer that I didn’t at least like. Most are exceptional. This is a brewery I would consider moving just to be closer to. And I bet there is a great selection of aged lambics if you know where to look.

There is no doubt that this place is a touch rough around the edges, but you don’t come here for the ambiance. Best place to get Hill Farmstead beers and all staff are extremely knowledgable. I really need to make it to one of their festivals!

I have to say to start... I am a big fan of the location and the tucked away quality of this brewery. Glad I had a GPS but also glad I missed the first turn it told me to take because someone at the brewery had gotten stuck in the mud by taking that route. Anyhow my route was a nice freshly graded dirt road for a couple miles up to the Vermont hillside that takes you to the brewery which is an old farmhouse & barn brewhouse. I was pleasantly surprised that there was 5-8 cars from VT,NH and ME in the gravel driveway where there were scattered pallets of shrink wrapped bottles and empty kegs. Inside is quite rustic with a little bar and six beers on tap, as well a around a dozen imports from renowned breweries like Fantom & Mikkeller. There is a 4 beer taste limit but since I was with my lovely wife we were able to try all six by sharing a few tastes... not sure why they cant do a 6 beer tasting, state law maybe? The staff was very friendly and there was alot of talking going on about beer. I loaded up with some 750ml and 2L growlers to take back to Maine and was impressed by all of their selections. I do however wish they had some bottles available... That way Id have the option not to drink what I buy within a couple days to ensure freshness. Anyhow that being said I will now be keeping them on the radar and watching their current tap and bottle selection updates via the web, to better plan a fruitful journey for next time. I also hope they plan on investing in a little better more comfortable set up... being there with 10 people was reasonable but had there been ten more its not really set up for comfort.... you have alot of land around you... Im not looking for a resort but build a tasting room with a few benches a and a bathroom. Great place but with a little elbow grease and some thoughtful design this place could be legendary !
