A huge, centrally located, open plan brewpub with a large outside terrace. As far as foreign German beer houses go, this is pretty authentic with the nicely polished brewing equipment right behind the bar. Excellent service. Decent beers, good food and wifi. They only have two of their own beers, so thereís limited ticking, but itís well worth the visit.

This place was the closest thing we could find to a craft beer place in Vietnam. Met our expectations for another local brewpub that makes 3 beers onsite. Amazingly cheap beer but not really a craft kinda place. Itís our last night so we just donít care at this point. Bring on the towers!

Hoa Vien Brewhouse Is pretty far south of the Opera House but has a prime location with a huge sign welcoming you into its garden confines. I walk past a few ponds filled with goldfish into the massive hall. A menu shaped like a beer mug as at Gammer beer. This is a lively classy place. I ordered their lager and dark lager. Both were nice examples of their respective styles. Not innovative but well executed. Combine this with the beauty of the grounds and classic beer hall interior and you have one of the best places for tasty beer in Hanoi in my opinion. Extra marks for the service as the staff gave me a free key chain!

Massive place, two own beers on tap, Pilsner Urquell in bottles. Quite decent overall for Vietnam.

It was almost empty when we went on a Saturday afternoon but the service was friendly and good. A lovely setting and 2 very drinkable beers, overall our favourite of the visit.

As you walk up a sign tells you the outside temperature and then the beer temperature inside. Nice one. Approaching the front door doesnít really prepare you for the awesome raucous atmosphere inside. On a Saturday arvo it was packed full of locals absolutely going for it on both the food and beer fronts. The faux Czech fitout works pretty well, and the beers are well made. Very efficient service was a bit of a shock. Fun times guaranteed.

Giant ochre-colored colonial estate house with flawlessly rendered beer hall interior. Great atmosphere and great beers. You can buy off-sales, but they require a large deposit on the bottles. Note, courtyard is a great place to sit but the ponds are breeding grounds for thirsty mosquitoes.

A beautiful building set amongst rows of trees outside, I really could be in a countryside town in Bohemia or a village somewhere in Bavaria. An extremely busy atmosphere with lively, vocal Vietnamese mixing it up with expats and traveling visitors. You can have fun here, and the food is served up in plentiful supply, itís all good stuff. And once again, despite the crowds thereís no problem getting served and looked after by the staff. One of the better places to drink in Hanoi.

This, the Hanoi location of Hoa Vien Brauhaus is a massive palace-like German style brewery hall. The entrance from the crowded street corner is quite amazing, and the interior transfers you to Central Europe. The two lagers available are flawless renditions of German/Czech origin. They do also sell bottles for takeaway, which is unusual here. (Visited in May 2008)
