This gem is tucked neatly in Escondido just off Highway 78 with easy access. Unassuming at first, this dark store boasts a large high quality beer, wine, and spirits selection, each one seemingly individually picked for placement on the shelf or in the cooler. I was able to find several things here that I have yet to find in SD. This store is legit and the staff are ever ready to assist.
Really shocked by these ratings as I was so let down. This is a skip. The ambiance is great, one of the nicer looking shops I’ve seen, huge coolers and a nice downstairs tasting room. There is a big cooler in the back, but its to cold you can’t spend more then a couple minutes in there when you want to spend lots of time browsing. The coolers have prices and deals prominently placed, but the organization is off. Its really hard to search for beers, its not done by style or state or country, so you are just kind of left wandering around. No doubt there are a shit ton of beers here. However, there’s nothing remotely rare. Its all stuff I can find anywhere. Even when you see a brand like Midnight Sun, its all their common bottles. No Russian River, lacking in stouts. Really not getting it? I was there 15 minutes, never once asked if I needed help. Maybe I could have been directed to something interesting, but I walked away empty handed.
Stopped in for a quick visit after hitting up Stone. Was toward the end of a long day, so I would like to come back again. The guy at the register seemed nice enough when I had a question. Store was packed, not much aisle space to walk around. Very nice selection and quite a bit of foreign offerings.
> Smaller interior packed with tough to find wine, beer, and liquor; secret bottom floor
>> Knowledgable staff, weekly tastings, a wine tasting machine downstairs, online store, mostly refrigerated beer tells me that this store is run the right way. Found tons of cool stuff:
Cisco Pechish Woods, Monomoy Kriek, Logsdon, Hopfenstark, Modern Times, usual suspects, expensive Evil Twin, Mikkeller, other Norwegian and Danish imports. Liquor wise found Bruichladdich Black Art 4.1 for $330, so there’s that. Prices not so bad. Reminds me a lot of an upgraded La Bodega, the best beer store in Riverside CA. Will be coming back often as this is the best bottle shop that I know of in my area besides Texas Liquor in Carlsbad.
First stop a few days ago was to check out this bottle shop close by to Stone. Medium sized beer area in the back left of the store, wine on the right, liquor filling in the front and middle and even a large cigar area on the far right of the store. I didn’t even notice the back beer cooler or wine cellar until I wandered back there right before leaving. Atmosphere was pretty good, typical bottle shop feel really. Quality was pretty high all around. Nice furnishings and displays to go along with the beer glasses and beers. Service was pretty good, I was asked if I needed any help once but I was just browsing. Selection was solid all around. A few rarities sprinkled with with plenty of the typical local west coast offerings. Even more can be found in the cooler in the back so make sure you look back there as well. Prices were on par with the others in the area. Overall a really nice bottle shop, I would probably stop in again if I was going to Stone.
Absolutely world class. They have an incredible range of California beers, plus lots of national brand and a very impressive selection of European stuff. The prices are very good. The guy at the check out seemed a little smug but I don’t really care about that at a bottle shop, they don’t offer a volume/ case discount on beers, in case you were wondering. A must-visit if you are anywhere in the vicinity (and I would go out of my way to visit).
