(Visited 10/2012): Hoppy Brewing is on Folsom Blvd not too far off Rte 50 near Cal State in east Sacramento. There is a small private lot in front of the building.

The inside opens to a host stand and table seating on the left. Dark red and beige color scheme. The bar area is immediately past that in the center, with more table seating on the right. Brewing equipment is visible in the rear. Marker boards behind the bar list the beers that are available ("lights", "mediums", "darks"). TVs and merch behind the bar as well, plus a mural above it.

Hoppy has around 8 of their beers on tap, mostly year-round offerings like Liquid Sunshine, Hoppy Face Amber and Golden Nugget Cream Ale. They also had a seasonal/one-off on my visit called Accidentally Double Blonde. All of the beers were average to decent.

Service in the bar seating area was pretty good. Our server was quick and fairly knowledgeable about the beer.

Hoppy’s food menu is upscale bar food, and my colleague and I had no complaints there.

Overall I would give the edge to Rubicon beer-wise but this is still a worthwhile spot to visit in Sacramento.

Open, somewhat dated place in Sac. Food is pretty good, beers are average to great with good food. Service is friendly but not prompt. I expected more hoppy beers, but that was not the case.

Never like when a brewpub has a commercial or an advertisement that basically states "oh yeah, we also have beer". Tends to reflect in the quality (or lack thereof) of their beers. Nothing bad here, but nothing that made me want to go back

I visited this brewery during a home brew club, booze cruse threw Sacramento. It was a good brewery very clean beers and all around good place. None of the beers there really jumped out at me. They were all middle of the road beers, nothing was bad, but nothing great.

Went here for the first time for brunch on a Sunday. Overall feel is nothing special, but they do have some nice flowers and plants around that help diffuse the very commercial/industrial feel of the surrounding area. Service was decent - it was our server’s first day but he did well considering and was friendly. Food was good and came fairly quickly. Beer sampler was a good value and had some nice selections. Bonus was that on Sundays every entree comes with a free 22 oz. bomber to go. The only bad thing is that they don’t have more of their beer available in bottles.

Hoppy Brewing was decent, kind of a lunch type selection. Ambiance was nothing special. I had the ruben sandwich was good. And the beer sampler, the ones that are bottled are the best, but they are all pretty good beers. People are saying they are too hoppy... And honestly if your a Bud Light drinker I would understand, but I thought the hoppiness was very will balanced on each of their styles. So overall a decent place that I may visit again when I’m in the area.

Not a fan. First and foremost, Hoppy doesnt make very good beer IMO. As for selection.... it sucks because you cant get anything but Hoppy beer. The waitress, while nice, didnt know anything about the beer. The food was OK. If you want local brewery/pub grub in Sac...., go to Rubicon. Better beer, food, and location.

Great place. Good vibe, good food and good beer. Plus it’s right down the street where I live.

I went there many yyears ago and for some forgotten reason, didn;t like ti at all. Went there again twice in the last year and have had great experiences both times. Atmosphere is great and the beer selection is awesome and well balanced for every taste. Try the amber-you won’t regret it. I’m not a big stout drinker, but it was dark and rich and well, pretty damned good. We really appreciated that after calling around all day, this was the one pub/brewry in Sacramento that was showing the Stanley Cup playoffs on the T.V. -the main reason we went there. The new reason is for the great beer. I travel a lot and it’s now my 1st choice in Sacramento.

I’ve stopped by a few times when visiting in-laws. Always a fair selection of their own brews. Never had their food. Beer has been above average brewpub product. Maybe because it is nearby a college campus that it seems the staff initially pitches the beers by ABV rather than style? They seem to have a fair grasp of the brews upon further inquiry. Typically there are 2 or 3 of which I think are worth a second visit. Their 8.9% One Love Ale, an imperial red style, is worth seeking out.
