54 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 13/20 77ships (42) Antwerpen, Belgium | May 24, 2013 Quite an odd place – located maybe not in the very centre but in a very nice area. Surprisingly big with lovely new architecture on the inside, spacious, glass, exposed brick, smoking area, really beautiful bar etc. Very nice but also very few clients – this appears to be the rule which makes the size of the place weird. The beers themselves were obviously suffering from issues & badly made, pretty much everything they make appears to be infected. It is rather hard to drink their stuff. It is very obvious. Only 3 – 4 beers available, they sell only their own beers. Maybe a matter of point of view because when I asked as to what they have they replied something like “lots of stuff”. Their beers are also available to take away in big bottles. They have a more extensive menu of Belgian dishes, often prepared with their own beer which you luckily cannot taste. The food was not all that good in my opinion and overpriced. They appear to be aiming at a higher class establishment here but I was not sold on it. They service was a bit weird – might have been because of me. I wasn’t to trilled & they were expecting me to clearly drink more beers, eat longer etc. I think that I will not be bothering them in the future. I have no idea whatsoever how a place this big remains alive. | 58 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 JoeinEscazú (268) San Jose, Costa Rica | November 20, 2012 This would be more of a destination if it were (a) nearer to the center or (b) made more interesting beers. Sadly it’s a long hike for a couple of very safe, decidedly boring beers. Worth mentioning that the atmosphere is nice enough -- exposed brick, candlelight, shiny brewkit -- and that food appears to be the main thing.
voldoende parkeergelegenheid in de buurt | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 womencantsail (391) Garbage Grove, California | October 5, 2012 Fairly large brewpub in the southern part of town. Wasn’t crowded, just took a seat at one of the tables near the bar. Three house beers on tap at the time, none were very good, but I guess they were alright. Not someplace I’d need to go back to. | 52 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 baxterfish (141) , England | April 21, 2012 Modern warehouse conversion with a brewery. The place, like the beers, is perfectly fine but nothing special and not really worth the walk from the centre | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (228) , England | April 3, 2012 Well worth the effort of getting down too. We used the underground and bus system to get here, the tram to get back to the station area, to far to walk on a really crisp, windy, cold Sunday afternoon in March 2010.
Modern with that old feel you get when the designers leave the original walls up but change almost everything else. This old warehouse houses a modern brewery, kettles at the front, fermenting vessels to the rear, all clearly visible from where ever you sit. I thought the place was classy and my wife enjoyed it too. Upstairs wasn’t open, but I popped up to see, looked just as impressive as ground level did.
We were the first customers and I had all four of their beers over the course of our stay, my wife two, each was served beautifully and promptly. The blonde was the pick of the bunch in my eyes, the winter brew coming second. They sold huge bottles to take out, they looked great, but were a bit expensive.
The place slowly began to fill with diners and we left to continue or tour of the city using the difficult to work out transport system.
| 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Benjii (63) Edinburgh, Scotland | December 2, 2011 I really enjoyed this pub which was a bit of a walk from the centre of town. The house beers are very nice and the building is superb with beautiful copper brewing equipment all around. The food was tasty and filling. All in all, well worth a visit. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 rotjoch (67) Antwerpen, Belgium | August 4, 2011 Antwerp’s second brewery. A brewpub located on het Zuid, aquarter with lots of things to see and do. this brewery alas isn’t really one of them. They make three to four beers, depending on the season, all of them rather mediocre. the best one is Nen Bangelijke, which is good, but not bangelijk... The food ain’t bad, and the people generally are friendly. I’ve heard that there is a new brewer, so let us hope things improve! | 54 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 3/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 txspartan (44) Wilrijk, Belgium | July 30, 2011 A brewpub, so they only serve their own brewery’s beers. Excellent pairing with food in the restaurant, though. | 46 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 8/20 Beer3000 (71) Kristiansand, Norway | May 22, 2011 Quite an average typical brewpub without any special ambitions. Blond, Bruin and one “strong Belgian Ale” available. A bit less than average quality for the beers, we did not try the food but it seems to be OK. Quite crowdie in the evening but the service was fine and beers is non-expensive. Antwerp has a lot more exiting places to visit, but if you like visiting brewpubs like myself, this is the only alternative in town. |
