A: The building has a more upscale brewpub feel, comfortable but not a dump. The bar area seats about 30 along the bar and is surrounded by another 10 tables around it.
Q: I had three beers while here and one was decent, one was mediocre, and one was just bad. The mediocre beer was an okatoberfest...in january.
S: The service was average, the barmaid was mildly attentive but fumbled my order several times throughout the night.
S: They had six in house taps, no outside taps while I was there. They had a blonde, pilsner, Marzen, Red IPA, Porter, and Lager. Not a great mix with 3 light colored beers.
F: I ordered the 96 degrees burger which was perfectly cooked and tasted god with an average side order of pottato salad.
V: A pint of their normal rotation beers was 5.50, which I dont mind paying for a good in house beer..but their in houses were nothing special. Their íone offí beers were 6 bucks each.
Overall, an average brewpub with slightly subpar beers and if you are in the area, might be worth stopping into, but only if in the area, dont seek out.
How has this place not been rated already? This brewpub is located across the street from FDRís homestead and just down the road from the Vanderbilt Estate on RT 9 near the Hudson River. My wife and I had dinner there this evening after a day at these places. The menu is varied with a lot of choices. The food is solid and there is both pub fare and entrees. The place itself is a bar with 2 back restaurant rooms and a seasonal patio. The beers are typical of brewpub beers. Definitely a solid stop if in the area.
I stopped in on my way home from a recent business trip Upstate. The bar area is larger than the dining area, so I imagine they must get a good crowd in the evenings. I was there for lunch and the dining room was a little tight while there were two or three people sitting in the bar area, which I thought was poor use of space at that time. The service was attentive. They apparently have a regular lineup of five beers plus one dark beer that rotates and one seasonal. The food was very good and was hot when it arrived to the table. I can see myself stopping in from time to time when I am traveling along the Thruway.
Located across the street from Hyde Park and just down the road from the Culinary Institute of America. The building is not much to speak. The bar area features a very long bar area. They had 6 things on tap none of which knocked my socks off. The hamburger was moist and flavorful. What does impress you about this place is that despite being located on the side of the road it definitely has a neighborhood pub feel. I donít know if Iíd come back for the beer but I might for the food.
I visited this place yesterday, and I thought it was a pretty nice Brewpub. I actually enjoyed all of my food quite a bit (more so then the beer sadly). Anyway, they had 6 things on tap, including a couple that were at the very least interesting. Our service was rather good as well. The outside of the place was under a major renovation, and we almost didnít go because it really looked closed, but it was nice enough inside. Worth visiting if you are in the area for sure and you didnít make a reservation/donít feel like paying for one of the CIA restaurants.
Good bar/pub. Can get cramped very easily on bar side. But very lively atmosphere, with entertainment each week. Restaurant side is very nice. Food is good. A locals spot, which I like.

The Chaos Dry Stoudt and the Rough Rider Red Lager alone, are worth stopping for.
Kind of pricey on the food menu. I had the baby Spinach and the chili. Both were very good. The staff are friendly and attentive.
The location is very convenient on US Rout 9, less than 100 Yards from the FDR home and Library.
All 4 of us in my party enjoyed their food.
The portions are large.
one of the best local brewpubs in the Hudson Valley. The beers are incomprable for what they offer. The Barrel 9 changes every two weeks which is good for selection

The quality seems to have dropped off a little bit since the place opened, and I think they may have changed ownership along the way, which could explain that. The dinner menu way back when used to change a bit, and was (as best I recall) done by CIA folks. Itís been moving towards more of the typical brewpub offerings, though there are still some interesting menu items. The bar fare is rather standard, though they do make a nice pretzel.
Iím rather fond of the pizza and a pitcher thing on Tuesdays, which is quite a good value.
Crowds seem very erratic there, as if there is some secret schedule Iím not aware of, as Iíll go at the same time and day different weeks, and one day itís packed, others, dead as a Huck Finnís cat.
Bar service is often hit or miss, and very dependent on who your bartender happens to be. Sometimes you get someone very attentive, others youíre waiting and waiting for whomever it is to get off their bar stool and stop eating their dinner, and get back behind the bar.
It lopoks like my kind of bar when you first enter. The wait staff is usally friendly but the bartenders donít always know the beer well that they are serving. Most of the beer themselves are not my favorites but I leave that for the beer reviews. The food has been pretty good when I have eaten there. The sandwiches, brats, burgers, and chili are all really good bar dishes and go well with the beer they serve. I usually go when it is quiet but I knwo they do have specials and stuff like open mic or trivia nights. Descent.
