An old coaching inn or something I presume. The front bar reminded me a bit of Franconia for some reason. A relatively modest beer list with Girardin lambik which wasn’t in great shape on my visit. The lady was lovely. She gave me a cycling map of the Gooik parish (is that what you call it?) whilst keeping the crazy old local guy under control. Broken Dutch understood much better here than at de Cam.

We saw the chalkboard placard outside promising carbonnade or eels in green sauce. Unfortunately, at one o’clock on a Wednesday, only one person was working, and the choices were limited to spaghetti or croques. Bummer. But the pasta was still nice washed down with a shared bottle of Girardin Gueuze black label. Girardin lambic also available on cask. The list of 50 or so bottles includes standards but also quality. The lady was very nice, and spoke as much English as we did Dutch. Which is to say, thank you and dig in. Planning a return visit to Gooik, hoping for something or other in green sauce with some of that draught lambic. At the end of the day, places with good lambics and good food are always worth revisiting.
