Nice place to try Westvleteren ales, quite busy place visited by tourist and cyclers. Sat at the terras viewed the rustic Fields of Flanders.

Well, finally I have made my way here, and I am happy, but the experience of the place leaves me with mixed feelings, to be honest. The ambiance is nothing to write home about. The place resembles a large, spartan, immaculately clean visitor centre in a museum of international importance, which is rather strange since in this case the museum (the monastery) cannot be visited. The staff are busy and slow, and, well, not impolite as such, but certainly very far from friendly. I waited forty minutes for my beer and my hommelpap cake, both of which were excellent, though. The selection is obvious and needs no comment here. What offsets the less than splendid and heartwarming welcome you are given is the price of the beer. The magnificent, unforgettable W12 costs less than 5 euro per bottle here. You would be an utter fool to leave the place without the two sixpacks you are allowed to buy in the souvenir shop. And that is why I will gladly come here whenever I am ever here again, right in the middle of the rural nowhere of Flanders.

Oooopsss forgot to review this place .. Quite difficult to find without gps .. Itís more a restaurant / caffe very large with lot of chairs and tables .. We visited in November before lunchtime so we were the only guests for a while thatís why I did not apreciate the ambiance .. No taps but westvleteren by bottle with a great price compared with the money you must pay buying the same beer in Bruges or Bruxelles .. We had some cheese with was just in the average .. The lady who served us looked bored but wasnít unpolite .. Worth the visit just for saiyng " Iíve been here" and for the beers of course !!

Modern building without any ambiance. Crowded and full of tourists. Staff is correct but not overly friendly. Didnít try the food.

Beautiful country setting next to the monastery. I came on a picturesque day and had lunch, each of the three westvleteren beers offered and beer ice cream. Must have been lucky because when I came, it was half full and the staff was extremely attentive. The lunch (croque monsieur) was unremarkable but the beer and especially the ice cream were spectacular. Perhaps the best ice cream iíve ever eaten. If I can make one recommendation, it is that you go here, get each of the delicious beers and stuff your face with remarkable ice cream made with westlvetern blonde. Life doesnít get much better. The gift shop is awesome. Got some cheap westy 12 and westvleteren glasses.

This restaurant/barís identity is shaped by the fact that it is a necessity given how many eager customers pack the premises every day to buy their Westvleteren beer. The food offered is less than mediocre and the service staff to me seemed criminally overworked; the service rating here reflects on management, not the poor teenager who took half an hour to get a beer order for us. We enjoyed our drinks in the bucolic scenery, and moved on as quickly as possible.

Come here for the three Westvleteren beers. 4.3 EUR for the XII. Food is mediocre. Service was very slow on Sunday afternoon.

Huge cafe full of elderly tourists, tiny gift shop that is frequently sold out. Couldnít buy any beer to take home, couldnít fully enjoy the cafe either since this place is so remote, you have to come by car.

Iíve waited years for this visit. My wife joked that this was a pilgrimage! I found the place hard to get to, great! The staff were helpful and friendly. Our beers were quality, the shop had 12 and we bought 24 bottles. Gift shop was not well stocked but snack was tasty and plenty of parking. Well worth the detour if you can buy beer to take with you.

The mecca of beer lovers is a modern large cafe with a fairly utilitarian approach to decor. Situated as it is in the middle of nowhere it resembles a slightly upmarket service station cafe, but letís be honest no-one is here for the decor. Itís the beers. And thatís what really matters here. Three of the finest beers in the world served fresh and in immaculate condition. Whilst Iíve heard the service and ambiance can be horrific when a coach party turns up, it was quick and efficient when I went on a Monday at lunchtime. Didnít try the food but bought some cheese to go from the shop and it was decent, but not amazing. Itís the beers that are really the draw here, and anywhere that can serve 3 beers of this quality is going to do alright.
