Modern looking cafelike type of bar, something that easily would fit into your local mall. Hordes of tourist, a low estimate would say 300 cars in the parking lot and the connecting streets. A long line inside for the gift shop. We where lucky and got hold of a table outside. Service on the slow side, but not surprising with the huge crowd there. On the upside you will get a Westy 12 for a little less than 5 Ä . Only the Blond for takeway at our visit, but sold at 2Ä. Prices on beer was cheap, but more expensive on the food. If in the area again ill proberly pop by to see if im lucky and can buy some Westy 12 to take home, but its not a place i really want to sit down and drink a beer again.

Visited in 2011. The cafť feels very touristy and more like a visitors center with a small gift shop. We tried their three beers and had a sandwhich. Unfortunately we where never able to buy any beers from the brewery, they had some for sale at the gift shop but it was quite expensive. Itís worth a trip though.

Visited on 9th July 2014 Made the "pilgrimage" the Westvleteren whilst staying in the area watching the Tour de France. An immaculate, almost clinical restaurant with a small gift shop at the entrance. The shop was full and there was a queue waiting to get in there. We walked straight into the vast restaurant, which was packed, and had the fortune of a table becoming free as we walked passed! We grabbed it and made ourselves comfortable. We were seen to fairly quickly by a young lad, who was very happy to speak English, we asked for the three beers, a meat platter and a cheese platter. Considering the volume of customers, and previous reviews I was pleasantly surprised with the speed in which, firstly the beers and then the food was served. As for the beers, what can I say that hasnít already been said! The food, that was fine, the cheese from the monastery was very good. After we had sampled the beers and the food. We popped into the shop. The "8" was the only beer available at the time, so I took a case and a large slab of the cheese, plus a cracking p‚tť washed in "12"! As a restaurant, so-so, as a beer destination, a must on everyoneís list!

Well, finally I have made my way here, and I am happy, but the experience of the place leaves me with mixed feelings, to be honest. The ambiance is nothing to write home about. The place resembles a large, spartan, immaculately clean visitor centre in a museum of international importance, which is rather strange since in this case the museum (the monastery) cannot be visited. The staff are busy and slow, and, well, not impolite as such, but certainly very far from friendly. I waited forty minutes for my beer and my hommelpap cake, both of which were excellent, though. The selection is obvious and needs no comment here. What offsets the less than splendid and heartwarming welcome you are given is the price of the beer. The magnificent, unforgettable W12 costs less than 5 euro per bottle here. You would be an utter fool to leave the place without the two sixpacks you are allowed to buy in the souvenir shop. And that is why I will gladly come here whenever I am ever here again, right in the middle of the rural nowhere of Flanders.

Oooopsss forgot to review this place .. Quite difficult to find without gps .. Itís more a restaurant / caffe very large with lot of chairs and tables .. We visited in November before lunchtime so we were the only guests for a while thatís why I did not apreciate the ambiance .. No taps but westvleteren by bottle with a great price compared with the money you must pay buying the same beer in Bruges or Bruxelles .. We had some cheese with was just in the average .. The lady who served us looked bored but wasnít unpolite .. Worth the visit just for saiyng " Iíve been here" and for the beers of course !!

Modern building without any ambiance. Crowded and full of tourists. Staff is correct but not overly friendly. Didnít try the food.

Beautiful country setting next to the monastery. I came on a picturesque day and had lunch, each of the three westvleteren beers offered and beer ice cream. Must have been lucky because when I came, it was half full and the staff was extremely attentive. The lunch (croque monsieur) was unremarkable but the beer and especially the ice cream were spectacular. Perhaps the best ice cream iíve ever eaten. If I can make one recommendation, it is that you go here, get each of the delicious beers and stuff your face with remarkable ice cream made with westlvetern blonde. Life doesnít get much better. The gift shop is awesome. Got some cheap westy 12 and westvleteren glasses.

This restaurant/barís identity is shaped by the fact that it is a necessity given how many eager customers pack the premises every day to buy their Westvleteren beer. The food offered is less than mediocre and the service staff to me seemed criminally overworked; the service rating here reflects on management, not the poor teenager who took half an hour to get a beer order for us. We enjoyed our drinks in the bucolic scenery, and moved on as quickly as possible.
