Visited on SAturday 20th October at 1.45 pm and managed to bag one of the few spare tables. The place was pretty packed, a fair number of US tourists and a number of Dutch, French and Belgians judgeing from the accents and the car stickers in the car park. Service was pretty good despite it being busy, our beers came 2 or so minutes and our food after about 10. Excellent pate with bread and salad. No beers available to take away on this visit as I’m aware bricks are sometimes available. Well worth popping buy if you’re in the area. Cost was E4.70 for a 10 and E4.20 for an 8. Didn’t have the Blonde whilst we were there.

Modern cafe next to the abbby of St Sixtus. Usually busy with all kinds of tourists. They serve all three Westvleteren beers and some good snacks to go with that. Also a little shop inside where you may be able to buy a beer gift package.

Excellent cafe out in the countryside right near St. Sixtus. A great place to enjoy a few Westvleteren beers and perhaps a small snack. Always pretty crowded, but very quick service. The best prices you’ll find on the beers outside of buying crates at the brewery. The building itself is quite beautiful, particularly on the interior.

As this is the only place to get Westvelteren, the selection can’t be beat. Had the 12 with dinner, the 8 with dessert and finished with the blonde. Truly a day to be remembered...

I have visited this place three times and just realized that I never rated it. It’s out in the country and difficult to get to if you are not driving. Located at the abbey gate, it dispenses all Westvleteren products that are available (they run out sometimes). Other than that, this is a fairly inauspicious cafe that also serves light fare such as cheese plates. However it is the least expensive place to procure a relatively undistributed outstanding beer. It’s a tourist spot, not a geek place.

Wide open outside both in front and in the back. inside and out it was more modern than I was expecting, looked like a nice cafeteria with lot’s of peopl efrom the comunity having lunch or a snack alongside a world class beer. Just pretty cool to see a pair of grandma’s splitting a soup and sandwich each with their own full glass of Westvleteren (no sharing there!) Service was OK, as we only spooke English and our server did not she seemed to try and avoid us, had to get up to get extra napkins and mustard myself. As far as selection, they had 3 beers, be it three of the best beers, still 3 beers means I cannot go scoring this place a 4 or 5 (any othe rplace would get way lower. that being said, quality is way up there. Food was okay, we just got a cheese plate and a sausage . . . the sandwiches looked good, my bad for not getting one. Value was very good as the Westy’s were not overpriced like they are everywhere else in the world. The fresh 12 is a bit young but I had to have one (and so do you!), the 8 was very good but the fresh Blonde blew them all away, FANTASTIC!!! If I ever end up there again I will just drink a few of those and be very happy.

This place has a lovely beer garden out the back and fortunately the sun was shining at my visit. The interior is much like a cafeteria, so this place is best visited when the weather permits seating outside. Their selection consists of the three Westvleterens, and they are very reasonably priced at just under five euros for the 12. Service is basically like a cafeteria, but at least they are fast.

Situated in the country, I assume that it is impossible to get here with public transport, which is always a minus in my eyes but obviously the location is more than justifiable, ample parking space, the place itself is a large cafeteria style building, not a beer place but a not mad, modern Ikea-style cafeteria, quick big & busy looking, you can get the Westvleteren beers including the 12, lots of people coming, a family type of place, there is a smallish shop inside where you can buy to take away six packs of the blond & 8 as well a mixed six pack of those two, some other goods as well, cheese, cookies, dvd’s that type of stuff, none of the food stuff besides the beer is made in the abbey is well, apparently imported from France, paid 14.40 € for a six pack of 8, this is not a place for beer geeks, the hype is huge among the non beer geeks in Belgium, everyone pones himself in having drunk this, this is a place for regular tourists, bicyclists, family outings, this is like Lunch Garden, nothing more or less, if you are in the neighbourhood it is not a bad place to have drink or buy some beers but this is not a beer pilgrimage site, this is for the average Jupiler drinker, don’t mean that as a condescending thing because on that level this place works wonderfully it is just not meant for someone with a Ratebeer account, I feel, pay a couple of euro’s extra, drink the beers elsewhere & use the time to visit other beer destinations

We were there on a sunny day after a long drive. We were happy to arrive and be served quickly. Able to try the Westvleteren at a reasonable price, buy a few bottles and glasses (without a reservation), and eat some tasty ham and cheese under the sun......cannot ask for much more from a place in the middle of nowhere. Make sure you have a GPS!

Visited a few years ago after a trip to Bruges. Large canteen-like place, looks a bit sterile, not really a bar-feel to it. All 3 beers were available, with the Blond for takeaway. Had some cheese, 8 & 12. Nice to have been there, but not really memorable considering ambiance.
