8 AMBIANCE 1/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 1/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 1/10 OVERALL 1/20 KansaiBeerLvrs (42) Kyoto, Japan | January 16, 2013 This place is currently under review, after giving it a glowing recommendation I went back to enjoy the standing bar with my friend. I chose my beer at the shop and enjoyed it in the bar. When the bill came it was slightly more than I expected (the liquor store price plus 100 yen bar fee) & I asked the guy about it. He said let’s go next door & check we went. Most beers seem to be mislabeled or the label is on the side of the fridge. When I told him that was their fault not mine he said fine pay that price. I thought that was the end of it but when paying the bill he suddenly said "Don’t come back" At this point I got angry told him off and left. I went back tonight to clarify if I misunderstood him but he was not there. He is the son of the owners & his mother said he has a short temper & quickly says rude things. He also refuses to apologize.
I honestly regret adding this shop to ratebeer, you may be ok shopping in the store but I would avoid the bar. Also considering I speak ok Japanese I would not recommend the place to people with no Japanese ability.
I am waiting for an email response or a chance to talk to the young bartender to get his version of events. Until this matter is settled I will not be sending any business their way. | 58 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 10/20 KyotoLefty (350) Kyoto, Japan | January 11, 2013 Can’t say much about the service. Didn’t talk all that much. Probably the best shop in the Kyoto station area, and one of the better in town for Belgians. Might be fun to hit the standing bar in the evening. He had a decent selection of Belgians, a couple that aren’t easy to find, but nothing too surprising. Some sakes I hadn’t seen before which I might check out, though mostly huge bottles. Not worth a special trip for visitors to Kyoto, but people living here might find some Belgians that they want. |
