Since I moved to Michigan, this place has been a favorite of mine for a few good reasons: 1) The selection is one of the best in town. It is always changing; these guys really keep up with all the seasonal beers that many of the local and craft breweries release. 2) The staff (though I have only seen two guys work there) seem to know there stuff, if they have not had a beer they will usually tell me what other customers have said about it. 3) When I first started going to IBS the single beer selection was poor at best, over the last few months it seems that just about every beer is available in singles. Maybe because of more competition in this area, but whatever the case, it is a welcome change. The prices are very reasonable on the singles, if my calculations are correct they add about 15 to 30 cents to every single serve bottle. There is no discount for buying mix n’ match 6packs though…arrr!!, some of the other places add 15 to 20% to their single prices and then give you

Stopped here on my way through Grand Rapids on a recommendation. This is an impressive store, as you walk in there is a beautiful wall of Belgium and import cork finished bottles on your right. The back half of the store is all beer. For the most part this is a very organized and well laid out store. Their selection of Michigan beers is amazing not to mention the prices are very fair as compared to other retailers that I visited. Every beer is available in singles; you can take a single beer right out of any six packs to build your own. The service was excellent; I was greeted as I walked in and talked about IPAs with the clerk who was very helpful in picking out some wonderful Michigan brews. Shook my hand on the way out and had me join their email list.
One of the most notable stops during my trip...wish they had one of these in Oak Park!

I learned about this place from people at the winter fest beer tasting. Everyone serving the beer at the event spoke very highly of International Beverage. I have lived in Grand Rapids for a long time but had never stopped in. My parents buy a lot of wine from this place so I guess I always figured it to be a wine shop. Wow! Was I wrong!! The beer selection was absolutely fantastic and well organized. I usually do all my beer shopping at Siciliano’s. Overall Siciliano’s probably has just a touch more beer, but I felt this place had better beer. The Belgian beer selection was maybe the best I have ever seen. I’m picky about dates and the beer seemed much fresher than most stores in the area. The staff was very helpful, Adam helped me with the beer and I even picked up a bottle of wine for my parents thanks to Rashi!
Bottom line I couldn’t believe that I had not visited this place earlier…I would give the beer part of the store a solid A and overall store an A+. It is a one stop shop for those with that enjoy good beer and good wine!

Fine selection. Owner, Rishi, quickly knew the local availability of ales on my "to try" list. Promotional pricing is good, but many brews, like Arrogant Bastard Ale, were $1 more than other shops.
3/18/10 rerate: Now sells singles of every beer in the store. Lots of cases of the "hot beers" on the sales floor. Be sure to check Rishi for a discount on large purchases.

One of my favorites. Rashi is very friendly, and knows his stuff! Great selection of both beer and wines. Can’t complain about prices, either. Always have a nice conversation when there, too...

Large place with a massive beer selection. Whereas many liquor stores also do beer, this one looks like it does beer first and foremost, and also does liquor. It’s obvous that this collection has taken the staff quite a while to put together. Everything is available as singles, of course, and the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. A must stop while in the region.

Visited on a quiet Sunday afternoon in October 2011.
Atmosphere: attractive layout, wine and spirits at the front, beer in the back. We were the only ones in the store so I had plenty of room to move around and browse.
Service: at first the clerk seemed a bit indifferent; however, after we chatted for a while he dug out some fresh Centennial IPA for me and recommended a couple Michigan lagers for my girlfriend’s dad (it was his birthday).
Selection: comparable to Siciliano’s and larger than most stores that I’ve come across in the Great Lakes region. I grabbed bottles of Bell’s Pale Ale, Oarsman, Lager Beer, and Octoberfest, Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter, Founders Curmudgeon and Pale Ale, Shiner Bock, North Coast Brother Thelonious, and Ommegang Three Philosophers, among many other beers. A half-case of singles and two 6-packs came to $48, which is reasonable in my books.
Overall: a great alternative to the competition with very fair prices. Picked up a few gems that I couldn’t find elsewhere and left for Graydon’s a happy camper. Check this place out.

Good selection - huge store, really nice and helpful owner. Good selection of Belgians. Would be better if there were more beers available to make your own six pack.

A nice selection of Belgians greet you when you enter the store, as does whoever happens to be working behind the counter. The younger guy (who looks like Hodgins from Bones) was very knowledgeable and hooked us up with some cheap glasses so we could drink the beer we had bought earlier in our hotel room. Nice selection of bombers and six packs both state-wide and from regional and national breweries. Singles were a rarity the first trip I made here in March of 2009, but now everything is available as a single! Yeah. Bombers were a bit spendy, but the rest was in-line with stores in the area. Probably my favorite store I visited in Grand Rapids.
