Nice open room with a long stainless bar and lots of communal tables made out of rough hewn logs. Friendly, attentive staff at the bar. They had a dozen of their own beers on tap that lean toward the hoppy. Several tvs around the room. They encourage people to bring in food. Cool place in Wooster.

Checked this place out for the first time a week ago on the way back from the Land of Cleve. Large warehouse with beautifully crafted picnic tables, a couple TVs and a bar. Pretty good selection of brews with flights available. Didn’t even try all 16 thanks to the long drive ahead, but me and the GF split flights to try the other 12. Nothing blew me away, but decently made beers and the dude behind the bar who looked all of 12 years old was friendly enough. Would consider making it a normal stop on Cleveland trips if it wasn’t such a pain in the arse to get to (not very close to 71.)

This establishment opened a couple of years ago on the east side of downtown Wooster, Ohio, just south of the College of Wooster. (It is not a college bar) It is a microbrewery with a large tasting room. The brewer has a good bit of experience and cares about quality beer. He has about 15 beers on tap including a cream ale, pale ale, red ale, foreign export stout, ESB,brown ale, and several ipa’s and Belgians. The beer is very good to excellent. You can bring in your own food and enjoy it with the fine beer.

Stopped on a Saturday evening around 7pm, bar was mostly filled and the long wooden picnic tables were mostly empty, a band setting up with HUGE amounts of speakers if we had stayed long enough to hear the band play we’d probably be deaf. Grabbed a seat at the bar and parked across the street, bartender was prompt and accommodating, tending to regulars as he did us "foreigners" Samples can be had 4 at a time for 8$ of anything on tap which is a little high considering a cream ale 4oz should not be the same as a BA Stout, but hey alls fair. 14 beers on tap all JAFB good variety, 3 IPAs, some pils, some hefe some darker stuff. Glad to stop here, and oh yeah, the beer is tasty too.

(Visited 10/2012): JAFB is located in downtown Wooster in a handsome old brick building on Beall Ave, right off Liberty. There is a small private lot adjacent to the building.

The interior is open with long wooden benches inside, and the bar in the rear. Eclectic decor including brick walls and black and white checkered flooring, plus some interesting knickknacks. There is a chalkboard behind the bar listing the available beers, and the brewery is visible through a doorway behind the bar. Tap handles are lined up along a patterned metal backsplash.

JAFB has 10 house beers on draught. On our visit this included a Smoked Porter, Farmyard Pale, Session IPA and Harvest Saison plus a few more standard styles. All of the beers are well-made.

Service on an early weekend afternoon was good. Our bartender happened to be the brewer so we were well taken care of, and he had a little fun with us on what the acronym "JAFB" is. He was clearly passionate about his beer and their presence in Wooster. One negative is they are cash only.

We did not have any food on our visit, they do not have a menu but you can order in.

Overall Wooster has long been a town we passed without stopping on trips between Columbus and Akron-Canton, but with places like Broken Rocks and JAFB now in play, we will be making pit stops regularly.

This place is really cool. Old building, about a half mile from the College of Wooster campus, and has a cool vibe. They made the tables in this place. From trees. Just check their facebook page. I spoke with one of the owners and brewer at length and I am really looking forward to what they have in store here. Did I mention the beer here is really tasty and solid? If you happen to be in the Wooster area I highly recommend stopping by. You can bring your own food or order in if you want since its a tap room. And one of the nicest I’ve been in to date.

Let me start by saying the beer here is very good, especially considering its newness. Large, open space with odd/modern art placed in every corner and on the walls. Old school floor reminds me of an old VFW or German-American bar. Big picnic-type tables are about the place, along with seating at the bar. Beer is really solid(oh, I already said that), especially for a brand new place. No food, but you can bring it in.
