56 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 2/10 OVERALL 12/20 Zenwolf (52) Waterloo, Ontario | August 26, 2010 Its old. Might be the oldest.. who knows. Other than that there isn’t too much then the age. Defiantly a tourist trap. Not for a beer tourist other than a picture taken out front. |
52 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 drpimento (131) La Crosse, Wisconsin | May 28, 2010 They have the local Abita Amber plus the Southern Gold from Lazy Magnolia from Mississippi and the usual macros on draft. The drafts I had were clean had good head on them. The building is quite old and they have a series of about 10 photos on the wall showing it over the years beginning in the 1800s. Service was good. We went back a few times during our visit. |
48 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 10/20 rcr484 (11) | December 15, 2009 This place is an abhorrent tourist trap, a complete travesty considering its history. There is nothing in this Absinthe House resembling the classic Absinthe House. Booze is expensive and the crowd is decidely NOT local. Be prepared to encounter many tourist yahoos getting their drink on. |
72 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 jfosu (11) | December 14, 2009 Lafitte’s is down Bourbon beyond the dime a dozen strip clubs and party bars. As far as drinking beer goes it offers a limited selection. But they do make the best hurricane and one of the best sazeracs in the city. The ambience is where this place shines - nearly all lighting is candle light and the interior structure has undergone virtually no changes since this bar opened in the 1700s. There’s a grand piano with a bar built into it in the back that has someone performing every night. If you’re looking to get away from the craziness of bourbon and relax this is a great place to do so. |
62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Poobah (16) New Orleans, Louisiana | August 21, 2009 Need to correct other entry regarding the age of this bar. Please visit Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop down the street and prepare for an excellent atmosphere and being in the actual OLDEST bar in the country. The Old Absinthe House is cool, somewhat touristy, yet visited by some locals. Personally, I have always had a good experince here and stop in once a year or so. Good bar. |
36 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 7/20 sebletitje (228) Enghien, Belgium | July 26, 2009 Nice small place on Bourbon St. supposedly the oldest bar in the US.
Just wished the inside was as good as the historical aspect of the bar.
A few beers on tap; Abita and just had this club atmosphere. Overpriced beers served in a plastic cup. At least it was good stopping there and stay away from the heat and humidity.
Dirty bathroom, outside club area just waiting for the drunks to stumble there at night. This place could have been a perfect beer garten as the location is amazing.
Historical feel deserves a 80+, the bar itself is boring at best.

70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 phishpond417 (51) Madison, Wisconsin | June 28, 2009 A great old building located near the beginning of Bourbon Street. I visited here right after the Hurricane and had a couple of nice cold beers after a long day of work. While the prices are a little steep (compared to where I am from), it sure was a cool feeling sitting in this place. I could practically feel the spirits of past patrons floating around. |
