Seems more a cider than beer place but often has some less seen casks.

Nice little place hidden away near the top of the royal mile. always beer in good nick, but they tend to carry a couple of decent and changing ciders so if your a cider drinker this is a must stop place

The Jolly judge is tucked away just off the Royal Mile, but should be clearly signposted on the High St itself. It is rather small inside, so I would recommend a visit outside peak pub hours. Inside it is a touch touristy, but pleasant enough anyhow. They offer a small selection of ales on cask (Stewartís etc) and a couple of McEwans & West beers on Keg. On my last visit their bottle selection, although small included some of the rarer Tempest brews. Service was prompt and friendly. A solid central spot in Tourist town.

Located towards the top of the Royal Mile, but down a small alleyway on its north side, which helps to filter out some of the tourists from heading here. Those pub seekers that donít make it here are missing out as this is a lovely intimate pub for a city centre drink and the small bar sports three hand pumps that rotate alongside Scottish brewed keg ales and lagers.

Nice place down the steps at the Edinburg castle. Several obscure taps. Quite with tables around the peremiter of the bar. Service is excellent. No loud music and TVís but several ratable taps on hand. I would recommend it to any beer seeker in the area

Even though the location is next to the Royal Mile, itís a bit tricky to spot. A narrow path is leading from the Royal Mile to the backyard where the pub is located. Extended and narrow roomed pub with an inviting atmosphere. Three changing cask ales on offer and a few on kegs and bottles. Friendly service. Thanks to mr_h for taking me to this gem of a Scottish pub (visited 09.08.2013).

Chose the right time! Tourist time is not the best advice to be given, then it is packed and staff is a bit stressed. So went there in calmer times and it is pretty relaxed, staff is friendly and easy going. Take your time to sip your beer no worries. Selection is ok, prices touristy.

Small cramped touristy bar down a close off the Royal Mile. 3 hand pumps & 2 McEwans keg beers. Was full of loud American tourists when I visited. Not a place I like but they do get some interesting beers from time to time. Revisited - not so many tourists & a very helpful interested barman so it gets a much higher score.
