98 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 ClarkVV (90) Allston, Massachusetts | December 2, 2004| Updated February 23, 2007 I’m going to take advantage of the lack of a minimum word count on place ratings and just say WOW. If you are remotely near here, go here. Great discount 15% on 6 or more bottles and a fantastic selection overall. Joe (the beer manager) is the best in the biz. Ambiance is tough for a huge liquor superstore, but they have the beer section organized very, very nicely. | 90 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 19/20 OldGrowth (138) North Carolina | June 13, 2004| Updated July 26, 2008 This used to be my usual store for beer. Only a few minutes from where I lived. Its a big box store nothing fancy. Joe the beer manager is constantly bringing in anyhing he can get his hands on. Usually has a beer tasting on Saturday afternoons. Sometimes a brewers is there, sometimes just store staff featuring someone.Great New England selection.Big Belgian section If your in the MetroWest area is worth a visit. 05/06/05 Really has brought a bunch more stuff in since my first comments. The West Coast is here. Joe pointed out to me that they have Sake too, it’s towards the wine side of the building though. Fyi | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 muzzlehatch (255) Burlington, Vermont | February 25, 2004| Updated June 17, 2005 February 04: I’d heard quite a bit about this place, and was really looking forward to checking it out; alas, a bit of a disappointment in relation to some of the other amazing beer stores in MA. Perhaps things have changed of late, as reviews elsewhere are real raves, but...prices were among the highest I’ve seen, there was really nothing I saw here that I didn’t see elsewhere (except the Berkshire Holidale, that was cool), and selection of stuff like lambic/gueuze and vintage British stuff was pretty slim. Certainly worth a stop in the area, and way better than any choices in VT or NH, but there are plenty of better possibilities an hour to the West or South.
April 05: much better on a second visit, service was very friendly and prices overall a bit better than most beer stores of similar quality in central/western Mass. Better selection of Belgians than a year ago and it seems more local rarities. Bumping it up a couple of notches. |
