86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 mds (100) Toronto, Ontario | May 17, 2006 Drinking a Drie Fonteinen Framboos in the garden was a sublime experience that I may never be able to top. I wanted to order food and I can’t remember exactly why I didn’t especially since everything looked quite good. The beer selection was solid with many lambics and regional representation. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 kyuss (2) , Belgium | March 24, 2005 The courtyard is incredible in the summer, very nice flowers, trees and a little pond, can’t get a better location in the city.
Inside it’s brown and cosy.
Food is really good too, certainly not expensive but certainly enough.
The selection is excellent.
I recommend coming on a beautiful spring- or summerday. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 mullet (224) Melbourne, Australia | June 28, 2005 One of the two places you cannot miss when in Gent. I was there in summer so the beer garden was in full swing - what a place. Food is really good (I had the waterzooi), service is great and the beerlist is good without being great, except for Drie Fonteinen Framboos!!!! It’s worth going for that beer alone, but this place has a lot of other attractions. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 Fin (368) Merton, Oxfordshire, England, England | December 10, 2007 This was a great place, wish I’d have made it here more than just the once but the distance fromn the centre of town and the fact that it rained pretty much incessantly for the entire duration of out trip put paid to this option. The barman was really friendly efficient and most helpful, best of all was service with a smile. This was a really nice place to sit and drink, it felt like and was to all intents and purposes a little backstreet local as it was two thirds of the way down a small terraced street. Great selection of beers quite strong on Lambics and Trappists I had a Lambic but Barry a friend had the Westvleteren 12 and at 8 Euros a pop this wasn’t too badly priced. Would say this was one of my favourite pubs in town. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 DenverLogan (63) MileHi, Colorado | August 10, 2008 Multiple rooms, each with their own feel, and a courtyard with sculptures. Very cool atmosphere and a good collection of beers. I had a 1975 Mariage Parfait when I was last there in 06’. It’s a bit off the tourist path but worth it for beer lovers. Double check directions and hours before heading there. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 Geuzelambix (19) København, Denmark | May 3, 2008 From outside this looked like an average drunkard pub, but inside it was quite different. A rather large place with a possibility to sit outside. It was really the selection that made this visit fantastic - they were exceptionally well equipped with good stuff. We chose to have a East Flanders theme and finished it off with some nice gueze. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 Hunsell (43) Amsterdam, Netherlands | October 25, 2005 The garden is the secret of this otherwise already very good beerbar. In a quiet and non-touristy neighbourhood, this is a small oasis of beers and good conversation. Service is good, selection is good, the ambiance even better. Definately worth a visit. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 caesar (224) Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands | May 16, 2010 Lovely place, located far away from the city centre. Beautiful garden which creates an almost romantic setting for drinking your favorite Trappist. Too bad I was there with 3 male friends :P | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 Glouglouburp (345) Montreal, Quebec | November 9, 2006 Very very cool pub a bit outside Gent tourist area. Very warm interior full of heavy woods. Does not sit many people inside but thankfully there’s the patio in the back. And what a patio!!! Unreal!!! One of the nicest patio ever, like a mini jungle or something. Official beer list is about 200 bottles but that doesn’t mean much since it is not up to date. I got myself a the Drie Fonteinen Framboos (yes there still had it sept 2006). Very friendly a knowledgeable staff. Didn’t try the food, don’t even know if they serve meals. Certainly in my top 5 Belgium pub. A must. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 lachesis (17) St Idesbald, Belgium | June 20, 2004 Nice place to enjoy great belgian beers. The ambiance is warm and cosy and the staff is very profesional. the food is good and reflects the authentic belgian cuisine. The selection of the beers is outstanding, and the way there serve it is also top. In the summer you can also enjoy a beer in the wonderful garden. Last week i had a Struise Witte (a new belgian white beer) served in a short trappist like glas and at the right temperature (3° a 5°C) it was a nice discovery and i had a great time. |
