If you want to enjoy good and varied beer in an ambient place away from the crowds, the rowdy elements of a night out and the social annoyances of argumentative couples then this is the ideal answer. Actual brewery is situated underneath the railway arches. Evin, your host, pours beer for you. Just ask Evin or the assistant for samples and buy bottles at the end. There are ranges of only the Kernel beers. Evin is very attentive to what you want and also brews something fresh and different from the run of the mill. Different brews are coming thick and fast without compromising on quality. There are wonderful artisan foods in the same lot as the brewery for sale and the overpowering sausages can really compliment the beer. The cheese I hear is especially good so if you want to accompany your beer without paying extortionate prices in the borough then this is the place to go. Please note that it is open from 9-3 on Saturdays. This is the future of London brewing.

I have visited the brewery once with my friend. We walked ten minutes, through a driving rain, from Borough Market to get here and it was worth every step. As there are a limited number of outlets to buy Kernel beers, a visit to the source is a guaranteed way to get some. When we got there, the brewer’s apprentice gave us a tour of the facilities and spent a good 20 minutes talking with us about the beers, the brewery, Vermont, skiing and even some other stuff. The facility is tiny and there isn’t much to see, but anyone who has tried a Kernel beer will understand that in this case size doesn’t matter. During this visit we tried a Centennial Pale Ale that was debuting that day and bought four bottles to take home. In the same building as the brewery there is a cheese-maker and a meat vendor, each selling food of the highest quality. The Kernel is without a doubt one of the best breweries in London - and, indeed, England - so for any serious beer fan a visit is mandatoy.

As a resident of SE London who has been drinking The Kernel’s range for a good while now I suddenly realised I have never been to their Brewery which seemed rather lazy. So made the trip on Saturday 15th Dec and very impressed with the setup. Liked being able to try the current range there before buying, and although Food is N/A as others have said there is the great meat/cheese place next door you can bring in while sampling. Overall very impressed. Good convenient location (for me at least) good service and prices. Can now see myself visiting regularly to sample the rare few brews that don’t reach the Catford Bridge Tavern.

A great place! It is not a pub but a brewery outlet where you can enjoy Kernel beers from keg and bottles. The Kernel seems to occupy two adjacent railway arches. During winter it feels a bit colder to sit inside than to stay in the sun outside. No problem, just wear a warm jacket. Good service, awesome beers and peculiar surroundings. Loved it! Just a short walk from Bermondsey Underground Station.By the way, bought a book: Craft Beer London (Will Hawkes) (Visited February16 th 2013)

Probably the most unlikely place for a brewery that I’ve ever seen. But what’s inside that railway arch is a real gem, a brewery that defies all local traditions and brews the best beers that I have tasted in the UK. Definitely worth going well our your way to find this place, and their beers.

Visited to pick up a few bottles and try a few beers. In a garage like building with just some makeshift seating inside. 4 taps and a number of bottles that you can try on site or take home. The employees were very helpful and offered numerous samples. There is a deli right next door where you can grab some meats and cheeses to snack on. Prices were fine, especially considering the quality of the beer.

Sunday public opening in a hidden alley, is kind of a pop-up market with cheese and salami producers selling their stuff. 2 beers on tap + a dozen of bottles for drinking on the spot or to take away. Friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth hanging out there on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Plus, you get to take out with you fresh bottles of awesome beer for a bargain price and your money goes directly to the brewery. Fair trade beer just taste better IMHO.

Ok, I know my scores are high here but it’s hard not to. The Kernel beers are excellent, Evin is a really nice guy with a genuine passion for what he does and will happily talk about all things beery while pouring you a glass or three. The place itself is under the railway arches on Druid Street so there isn’t much in the way of top quality interior, actually it’s outside but it doesn’t really matter. It’s just a good place to hang out on a Saturday morning. The Kernel Brewery is something Londoners should be throughly proud of and I urge anyone going to London Bridge / Borough Market to take the ten minute walk over here. Oh, and there is some bloody good meat and cheese available at a place next door. Get some Kernel action folks, you won’t be unhappy.
