When I visited: Late September 2014.
What I had: Buxton Black Rocks, Sly Fox Pikeland Pilsner, and Freigeist Abraxxxas on tap, Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork plate with collard greens and coleslaw for me, North Carolina-style BBQ Pulled Porked sandwich and a few glasses of 2010 Creisen Sauvignon Blanc for my fiancť.
What I liked: Dimly lit ambience at the bar, plenty of seats available, good crowd that minds their own, excellent draft list with some harder to find imports, killer barbecue, bartender was happy to provide samples, had a great chat with one of the patrons, awesome experience all around.
What I disliked: Service was a little cold at first but improved substantially as the night went on.
Would I go back? Definitely. Khyber was one of the better bars that we visited during our time in Philly.
Overall Rating: 92

Made a late night/early morning visit. Small place, but excellent selection. Two English cask ales plus ~20 more on tap with some tougher to find brews. Outstanding food. Good service.

Nice cozy little spot with a very solid tap list (think I came the day after their anniversary) Service is attentive and friendly. Menu is pub fare with a flare but I didnít eat. Prices are fair. Dig it and itís a regular stop in the area.

Another great hole-in-the-wall style Philly craft beer pub. Lots of surprises - I wandered into the place with a friend without realizing it was a beer destination while on a pub crawl. Some good stuff from good breweries not readily available in most situations. Service is good, and a friendly Philly crowd.

Popped in here for a quick drink during peak hours on a Friday night. Both the upstairs and downstairs areas were rammed. Very dark space filled with random beer bric-a-brac. It seemed that Founders had done a bunch of events in the area, as this place had yet another heavy concentration of their beers on. There were probably 20 taps overall, with a decent range of styles represented. I had a cheeky pour of Breakfast Stout then moved on to find a place that was a little less crowded. Overall, not a place Iíd head out of the way for.

From its live music roots to its new craft beer scene Khyber is a great place to stop when in the area. Its kind of small and dimly lit, with plenty of beer paraphernalia all over the place. The bartender was incredibly friendly and very attentive. They have a good selection of beers from local stuff to imports to weird one off brews. The food is also something to try as they have a nice handwritten chalkboard menu with mostly artisanal and original Cajun selections.

Ambiance: Small but open, Iíve been here 4 times from a Saturday night to Monday lunch and it hasnít felt congested. The place is dimly lit in the eating area, even more dim in the bar area. Perhaps a bit too dim in the bar area. The place feels cozy though, in a good way.
Service: Service has been fair here, not great but not bad at all.
Selection: Overall Iíve been happy with the quality of choices around. Nitro and cask options are available with a varied tap list.
Food: Iíve eaten here twice and the food is excellent. Get the smoked duck sandwich if available.
Value: Not the best value, but certainly worth your money.
Overall: This is my new go-to bar when Iím by the riverfront. This place is simply a great place to hang out and grab some beers with good friends.

Visited May 31, 2014.
In the front window they have a variety of neon beer signs and a list of events. Hmm, whatís that? Looks like the Slayer logo and font but itís not. Actually the whole list is written like that. Kind of cool. On the right side they even have Reign In Beer written. I had this song stuck in my head the entire time..<cue thunder and rain sounds> dundundundun na-na-na na-na-na na-na-na.
Trapped in purgatory
A lifeless object, alive
Death will be their acquisition
Anyway, it could be worse I guess. For the start of Philly Beer Week they had a Victory Brewing event going on with several beers that I hadnít tried. Kind of cool. From the sounds of it they usually have a pretty good selection. Not that Victory is a bad choice but having a lot of one brewery is probably not very representative of their usual lineup.
Cool place with a good beer selection, but sadly no Slayer on the radio.

Pretty cool place in a nicely quirky pocket of downtown. Small, dark, and woody, just my flavor. Bellied up with my pal to watch some World Cup, and was very pleasantly surprised to find a range of excellent craft brew, heavily local. Enjoyed it and would prioritize a return visit.
