Plain place. Good food, decent enough beer range with at least one gravity offering and real cask ales. Worth a look.

A very decent boozer that Iíve frequented on a number of occasions over the last few years. Visited here on 03-10-09 and whilst it is undoubtedly a great little place it seems to have slipped a little further behind its close neighbour the Cambridge Blue, there was a beer festival on when I arrived but to be honest I was barely even aware of this unitl I went out into the garden and saw the casks, no one was out there and compared to the garden of last time it seemed a little sad and deserted, I accept that this visit was in October (albeit on a pleasant day) and my last visit was in June but much of the garden is covered. The beer selection was reasonably diverse but seemed to lack imagination. The beer quality was good though and maybe I just visited on a day when it wasnít at its best. UPDATE have visited here very frequently over the last three years since my last rating, in fact probably 3-4 times a year. My most recent visits have been in March 2012 and Sat 14th April 2012. The beers are always in very good nick with the likes of Crouch Vale Brewers Gold and Jaipur seemingly permanent selections. The choice is never quite as interesting as The Cambridge Blue but to be fair there is always something interesting or new (for me) to try. Good service a a nice little bar in an area which is spoilt for choice.

A busy spot with lots of good session cask ales. Great value here in addition to CAMRA discounts. Efficient bar staff, diverse clientele. Seems like a great spot overall. I could easily pass a good chunk of time in here.

This is a great local watering hole. Thereís 12 cask beers and a small (but decent) selection of bottles. The cask offerings were interesting (Thornbridge, Oakham, a few locals) and well-kept. They offer one íRecession Specialí beer for 2 quid a pint. The ambiance was great - very laid back and welcoming. Thereís a nice back garden for when the weatherís cooperative. The food looked good. Overall, I really wish I had known about this place when I lived in Cambridge. While the beer selection at the Cambridge Blue may be a bit more exciting for tickers, this place has charm in spades. Recommended.

We visited the Kingston Arms for lunch and a few beverages. Nice local pub feel with a laid-back atmosphere. They offer a solid selection of cask ale and a small, but varied selection of bottles. We opted for a few halves, then a bottle of saison dupoint for the pricely sum of £2.50! Food was way above average for pub grub. A nice spot.

Another comfortable back street pub in the Mill Lane cluster that Iíve visited several times and thought Iíd reviewed but hadnít. The feel is a bit similar to the Cambridge Blue, although the beer range is a bit smaller and somewhat undermined from a ticking perspective by the fact that a number of the casks - Crouch Vale Brewers Gold, Thornbridge Jaipur, Taylorís Landlord, Summer Lightning & Oakham JHB - seem to be permanent fixtures. The other 5 or 6 casks change constantly so I normally find something new, but there have been occasions when I havenít. They also run regular monthly mini-festivals. Pleasant, enclosed patio/garden at the back. They have free WiFi but also a couple of computers in the bar area for public use. Definitely worth a visit and, as youíre going to be in the immediate vicinity for the other pubs nearby anyway, it gets near-essential billing.

Nice back street local, interesting choice. Smell of vinegar soused food a bit off putting.

Quiet, friendly feel. Always with 10 real ales on hand pump. No bottled beers, no lagers. And thatís policy. Having said that - policy has now changed. Now thereís some good foreign stuff in bottles. No piped music, I consider that a plus. Tucked away down a side-street on the south-east of town (head down mill road), youíll need to be sneaky to hide your car somewhere. Oh - free internet access on 2 terminals for customers. Rate while you drink - hoorah!

Lovely little one-room sidestreet boozer not terribly far from the train station. Good ale selection, with a small amount of keg & bottles thrown in. Seems to attract a young crowd, very well patronised when I cam on on the first Monday after the Christmas holidays. Piped music free. While the (very nearby - I smell a pub crawl) Cambridge Blue may be close to the perfect pub, the Kingston would be the perfect local: well-worn, well-loved and well met on a wintry day. Youíd not be doing yourself any favours to exclude it from your visit to this fair city.

Worth the trek from the city. A great selection of real ales from many different breweries. Good service too. Feels like home!
