78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20 geauxT (34) Virginia | December 8, 2012 Old town Bamberg, = brown, brown, brown. The place, the beer and food. Pork knuckle and Braunbier with tasty brownish sauce, yummy, beery, porky, goodness. Lots, of wood and cozy atmosphere. You can’t come to Bamberg and not go here, but that’s true of the other breweries in town as well (maybe not Kaiserdom though). I rank it tied for 3rd in the town brewery table (behind Mahrs and Spezial, but equal to Schlenkerla) | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 Schlenkerla (200) , Austria | January 12, 2013 Oldest and also smallest brewery in Bamberg. As the others very traditional and so much atmosphere. Have a quite good beer selection, food and value great. Not far from Schlenkerla, in the middle of the old town of Bamberg, so nice. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 jorge76 (55) , Italy | August 21, 2012 Good place , unfortunately I visited it in November so I couldn’t enjoy the view outside ... I did not have my dinner in my only visit but the course seemed good.. The real reason to get in there is their schwarla .. The best dark beer in town !! | 72 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 rauchbierlover (89) Roma, Italy | August 10, 2012 The terrace on the Regnitz worths itself a stop here. The Schwärzla is another good reason. I had no fortune with the service, but who cares? A nice place, good beers, good food, what else do you need? | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 EithCubes (215) New Jersey | June 12, 2012 I’d missed coming here on my first three trips to the city, but not on the fourth. They have a beautiful but limited seating out front, the reverse in back, and an internal section with tons of ivy and open air above – can be a gorgeous place to drink in the summer. Inner rooms are cozy and urig. Warms the heart to know that locals are starting to embrace this ancient place again after a period of neglect. While you’re in this watery part of the city, consider hopping over to Eckerts around the corner. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Bjarte1 (70) , Norway | May 2, 2012 Great surroundings! Many beer styles on tap. A must visit. Lacks a bit ambiance. Service were a bit slow in my last visit. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 suprchunk (70) Heinsberg, Germany | April 2, 2012 Great Bavarian style restaurant/beer pub. Selection is, of course, limited to what they offer. But their offerings are pretty good. I didn’t eat, but the food looked pretty good. The service was decent and you have to grab them to get more beer. They don’t seem to check on you often enough. Good beers and a good atmosphere to enjoy them in. Nice enough place. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 madthom8 (52) Twickenham, England | March 25, 2012 March 2012. Went here twice during my stay in Bamberg. The room was nicely done with a traditional stove. I had the sauerbraten on my first visit which was okay. The beer was disappointing, especially the Pils which was barely drinkable. I found the dark beers to be a bit cloying. The waiter was friendly enough but seemed to get the idea I was going to steal the menu! | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 Ernest (120) Boulder, Colorado | December 26, 2011 Have been here twice; it’s a pleasant enough restaurant, clean and cozy if perhaps with just a bit of a commercial feel. I’ve never eaten here, but as I recall it’s pretty typical Bavarian carnivore fare. Service this last time could not have been more cold and unfriendly, though...as touristy as it may seem, the staff doesn’t seem to like tourists. He was jolly with the Germans but wanted nothing to do with us (even though we were quiet and polite and made things as easy as possible for him). Several brews/styles to choose from, and they’re all average or better in quality. So, it’s worth a stop but don’t expect to be in awe. | 40 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 11/20 TEJA (39) Stockholm, Sweden | December 25, 2011 On our beer-sighting in Bamberg this place was chosen for lunch. We were 15 people that came to drink and eat in the middle of may and were seated outside in the alley on 3 big tables. The beer came fast and was as always in Bamberg good but not excellent as in Mahr’s and Keesman that we were before. The food was OK but lasted for ever before we got it. |
