This place has quite some character. A few tables and seating places are crammed into the rooms, that are packed with all sorts of weird stuff. Luckily it’s possible to squeeze in a couple of beer drinkers as well. Service is very friendly and knowledgeable, but not always very fast. Selection is quite impressive, with 9 taps of ever changing beers, not a massive amount, but many of them can be quite rare, and a bit unexpected. On our visit in July, they had 8 well kept Christmas beers on. A bit surprising, but very nice. The list of bottled beers is more like an old time telephone directory, and quite impressive. I’d be surprised if you don’t find anything you haven’t tried. The atmosphere was quite relaxed and laid back, with the other guests being some students, a local group of pensioners and a couple of beer geeks. A must visit. | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 gEUS (34) Linden, Belgium | January 20, 2013 Incredible location; top list of bottles and draft (often they have unique hard to find beers only they have on keg) - known for its vintage beers as well. Warm hosts, nice atmosphere. Definitely a must when you are over in Flanders/Antwerp. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 n00bface (14) Minneapolis, | January 4, 2013 I was really excited about coming here. I showed up with my girlfriend right as they opened at 16:00, and was pretty amused, having not read ANY reviews before making the journey over, to find that the Kulminator is basically a house with a beer cellar. It’s run by an older couple who seemed rather surprised that we turned up at 16:00. I think the husband was a little annoyed to have to get up from his table to start working so soon - he kind of had that "aww, now I’ve to surrender my house to the tourists again" look on his face when we sat down. Classical music was playing in the background, and there was even a cat walking around the windows. The beer selection is obviously extensive and better than at any place I’ve ever been in Belgium. The service was also great, but the quality dwindled as the night progressed. I made a mistake and ordered a bottle from the menu that was apparently no longer available (marked with a slash in pencil on the menu) and, being that trips to the cellar evidently take a while -- and much longer when the beer one is looking for doesn’t exist -- I didn’t have my first beer until 45 minutes after I sat down. However, even that was a pleasant experience and I am very happy to have come here. I would come to Antwerp again just to sit here for a whole evening. It really is a unique bar experience.
