Visited this brewpub one late evening in hope to have something to eat, all the tables were taken so we had to wait in the bar untill a table was ready for us. We had a table, made our order, had another beer and while waiting a tall guy enters the brewpub, and it was Alex ( Fiulijn ). I think we all was a bit surprised because none of us expected to see eachother.. And we had a lovely evening :-) The brewpub is a typical german down town brewpub. Lots of space, great german food, beers in good condition and friendly staff, for sure worth a visit.

As this place is not located in a busy street, they have to lure people with something of value. They choose good food, some of the best we’ve had during our entire trip! The Spanferkel (suckling pig) was delicious, the Kartoffelsalat (potato salad) the best ever. Service is ok, but a bit slow despite being with a lot of them. Very friendly though. Beers are ok, but nothing special, as usually in Germany. So if you are in Heidelberg, and you have to eat anyway, just come here!

Much more upmarket with worst service than Vetters, but so much better. Excellent Beirgarten in the back, good service and the beer was phenomenal. I don’t know if the Pils has always used New Zealand hops, but it really hit it out of the ballpark for me. This place is my strong recommendation over Vetters, but only if you like good beer.

(Visited in 11/2011): This brewpub is located about a block from Am Hackteufel along the river off Leyergasse and Hauptstrasse. The interior is large and open with a beer hall feel, with rows of tables made of worn wood. There is a small bar on the right side with no seating. Kulturbrauerei Heidelberg has 3 beers on draught under the Scheffel’s brand, including a Hefe, Kräusen and Christmas beer (Weihnachtsbock). A couple bottled options too. The beers are all decent. Service on a slow afternoon was good. Our server was friendly and the language barrier was no issue (same as just about every other place on our trip). Overall this was a no-brainer stop on our walk back from the Christmas market to our tour bus. Worthwhile beer spot.

This is a quick walk from the castle as you make your way to the pedestrian area. The interior is very large and open with varied decorations. The service was good though I question our waiter’s explanation of tipping customs in Germany. The food was average for what we had been eating throughout Germany. The house beers were fairly good. If you had to choose only one stop in Heidelberg, choose Vetters.

Nice and quite big brewpub in the old centre of beautiful Heidelberg, in a part of town that is not too touristy, at least on weekdays. Decent beers, some of the seasonals are a bit out of the ordinary (like Porter), standard food, good service. Rooms available.

Here with Bierkrug and I really love this place. The food was really good and was great for my last meal in Germany for awhile. Beers were good and the building fantastic. A great time.

English-speaking waiters here aren’t really a surprise since this area of Heidelberg is infested with tourists, many of them American. The food was pretty good, standard German fare, as was the beer (Helles Kräusen and Weizen). Heidelberg doesn’t have much in the way of great breweries, so this place remains an interesting stop. However, it cannot stand out much in this country filled with little breweries.

Has a different vibe than Vetters, but it’s a great biergarten, especially in the summer. The beer and food make for a good German restaurant, and the seasonal brews are a very good reason to go. Vetters is still preferred.

I’ve been here many times, and continue to go back time and time again. The ambiance is really nice - a large, open drinking and eating space right across the walkway from the brewery, as well as a wonderful beer garden - they even keep it open in the winter with huge heaters and umbrellas. They also carry seasonal specials, including a GREAT maibock. My favorite brew here is their kellerbier, which I usually grab a growler of on my way out the door. Heidelberg is a college town, and this place really draws a crowd.
