Why the refusal to have a porter or stout on tap during the summer or fall seasons?

I used to go to school up near Lake Placid, so this place was always a stop for a bite and a few beers. The ambiance is very laid back and friendly here. It’s not the nicest brewpub you’ll go to, but it has a comfy atmosphere. The food is good and filling, but nothing to shout about. The beer selection is good. They usually have 5 or 6 house brews with the Frostbite Pale Ale being my fav, although they had a nice Maibock last time I stopped there. All in all, a nice place to relax and drink a few ADK brews.

This convivial brewpub’s beers were all decent, the Frostbite Pale Ale being a standout. The food was good, hearty pub fare, and the service very friendly. The decor upstairs is a mix of ski chalet and cozy pub, and it actually works. A very comfortable atmosphere is created, one which is perfect for a meal and a few brews.

Good beer, good people, good prices. Always willing to explain both the food and beer menus.

Visited the upstairs bar on a sweltering July afternoon. No A/C. Ugh. Anyway, the bartender was friendly and willing to chat a bit about the beer lineup and other seasonals. Locals were also friendly and I think I was the only tourist in the joint. Ordered a Cobb Salad that came fresh and plentiful and reasonably priced. The beers were also priced right and you could get growlers to go for just $10. They had two seasonals on, both wheats, and they were just right to beat the heat. Bartender was good enough to buy back a couple of rounds. A good experience for sure, but a bit of a run down joint.

FROSTBITE ALE ALONE IS WORTH THE TRIP FROM SARATOGA. DO NOT JUDGE BY THE BOTTLED VERSIONS AVAILABLE OF UBU AND THE IPA. Actually, the REApanoramic vista of Mirror Lake AND some of the High Peaks! THE best bar view in Placid by far. They usually have some of this brewpubs beers on tap. ADDENDUM 3/4/06: Returned: No growlers available "for another month or so", according to server. 6 packs are available. Frostbite remains as good as ever. Unfortunately, they have changed the menu (with the inevitable price increases accross the board); I’ll just say we liked the offerings on the previous menu quite better. Oh well.

I hit this place on a Thurs nite upstairs. I guess they have another bar downstairs, which I did not venture into. The upstairs part was extremely slow and quiet. A few TVs and some pine siding for the walls. Pretty boring embiance. The bartender was very knowledgeable of the beers as she had been there for over 3 years. I cannot complain about the service. I ordered a pulled-pork sandwich which was basically flavorless and not pulled at all, so that sucked. The bathrooms in this place are tainted with grafitti and are dirty with lights burnt out, etc. The location is sort of out there, but this makes parking much easier than on the strip. I actually think this is a good thing.

Better beer than Great Adirondack Steak and Seafood Company worst location and ambiance. 46erIPA was okay. Not a great beer stop either.

For some reason I’ve always seemed to hit LP on Mondays, when the kitchen and dining areas here are closed. The bar in the basement is rather dank and depressing, with a beat-up looking (but hardly charming) wooden bar, a few seats, and mostly locals swilling macros. The service has been fine, if not friendly, and the beer is a cut above that of it’s rival (Great Adirondack)...but not that much of a cut, so I’d opt for the latter if I could only hit one place. Ubu and 46er Ales are available bottled in the area.
