Umm, I asked for a sampler and they lined up 8 5 oz glasses of beer for me. Waitress were incredibly friendly, big beer menu (though somewhat underwhelming). Interesting metal decor inside, very spacious though and lots of room at the bar. I walked out of this place pretty hammered.

I must say after all these months of trying to get to Montreal for the pub beer, this little neighbourhood pub was the positive surprise of the trip. The atmosphere was laid back ( I went in the day time) in a traditional local tavern. Lots of original tavern decore survives. Great selection and the marzen I had was a wonderful offering of the style as were the other beers..well made, tastey and fresh. I would have a hard time deciding if I liked this pub better than DDC. I will be back for more seasonals this summer.

Nice smallish tavern atmosphere. Medium beers, most of the time without defaults, but very ecclectic experiments at times. Above average take on more known styles. Probably 3rd best in the city after dieu du ciel and l’amère à boire. Usually a more than decent range of beers (~8) on tap.

Eclectic, colourful paintings on the upper parts of the walls. Snake plants struggle in the dark 50’s tavern. Red Velvet curtains and neon clock on the back wall. Stainless-topped bar runs half the length of the establishment. Low lights. Intimate round tables. The ’White Horse’ hangs over the bar. Service is perfunctory but efficient, occasionally knowledgeable if pressed. Can get smoky if there’s a crowd. Snack food available. Beers range from fair to very good, no stand outs good or bad but they do try a wide range of styles. Recommended.

Was there with Jercraigs, Capflu, Tiggmtl, and Radek mid-afternoon and the place was pretty quiet. Seems like a nice place to pop in for a drink. The beers were good, and the one staff member I saw there provided good service and able to answer questions when we had them.

I’ve been rather impressed with this landmark. I really had thought it was heading downhill compared to the heavy competition in Montreal - but Le Cheval Blanc brewpub is indeed one of the front-runners in terms of selection, style diversity and experimentation. I’m actually leaning in the direction that I enjoy this place MORE than DIEU DU CIEL - yes, you are reading this correctly. (1) The atmosphere here is more-lively, the crowds are of more multiplicity (2) Le Cheval is definitely LESS SMOKEY (3) Access to the bar and staff is far better. (4) The staff is more alternative-cool and beer-educated. This is a generalization but – I’ve noticed that a few of the waitresses at DDC seem to have a bit of an attitude. They make it seem that they should be getting $5 tips for walking the 15 paces to the bar to “pull a pint”. (5) The layout for the Cheval is generationally-rich. It looks as though one’s grandfather used to come here, yet it picks up a new ornament every decade. (6) And finally, the big one - The selection here is far better and rotates more frequently. DDC always has the same ~7 beers of 12 beers on tap, and never have what you want when you want it. Their most popular beers are rarely on tap and new releases are made is such little quantity that they often run-out the same evening? This drives me crazy.

RBSG 2005 .Decor has been toned down a lot. Had a couple of interesting bottles in addition to their tap list, which had more taps than I remember. Servers were good but the one guy was a little put out at some of the more... raucous... patrons.
Mondial 2004. I was there in the afternoon with a bunch of Ratebeerians so it was fairly quiet. Beers were all quite good though none stuck out as being world class. Service was good and the layout while cool is not really to my own taste if I was going to be there on a regular basis. For the occassional visit though its quite interesting, especially the artwork on the walls!

I only visited once, a year ago. Loved the decor -- it's something out of a Tarkovsky or Bela Tarr film, very E European-modern looking. The beer was a mixed bag, but my favorite, the buttery biere de garde Triple de Mars gives extra points just for being a good example of a rare style. Of all the places that I've visited just once in Montreal, this is the one I'm most eager to re-try.

Simpleplace , relaxing ambiance and very good beers. I went there while wanted to find new places and new things to do... and that is where my beer addiction started! Slow service if the place is crowded.

I really enjoyed the charming interior and pleasant, historic atmosphere as I visited at an off-time and had much of the place to myself. They serve only their house beers and I bought one bottle to go. It was a bit of a stroll from the Berri-Uqam Metro stop.
