| 40 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 8/20 Arcanor (4) Quebec | April 17, 2013 Large Beer list ??? Yes, but when my six friends and me ask for some beers, the waitress came back saying that they don’t have it and this three times. Three times by seven equal 21 beers on 21 not in stock ??? So we stop and ask what’s in stocks. She said "all the beers on the black board". So, only local and in house beers, so we add 7 different beer that the waitress couldn’t explain the differences between them. Some local beer were good, house beers 2 was drinkable but not more and 2 others were infected, they didn’t want to replaced them. Food was ok. Won’t go back. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 mcberko (134) Vancouver, British Columbia | September 14, 2012 Stopped here for an afternoon pint. Decent array of light, sessionable Quebecois beers, including a handful of Saint-Bock beers. Not a huge fan of them, but the outside sidewalk location was great on a warm sunny day. Service was okay and the prices about average for Montreal. Worth a stop only if in the area. | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 auerbrau (278) Peace Dale, Rhode Island | August 23, 2012 In a state of quasi-culture shock, we settled into a patio table and watch the crowds fly. Hookers and strippers at the gentlemen’s club nearby, university protesters, and dog-tethered burnouts smoking copious pot on the streets. What better environment to order a few half-pints off the chalkboard and carouse through Quebec’s better draft offerings? Our waitress was the perfect nighttime patio-sitting attendant, keen and correct, but never pushy. The beers were always right, came at the right temp in tulips, and had a fair price on them (for Canada). I could have done without all the smoking, but this is Canada and apparently smoking is still cool here. Great selection. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Whatup14 (37) Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec | July 19, 2012| Updated July 25, 2012 Bel endroit, bien situé. Très bon choix de bière en fût, une vingtaine dont la moitié de microbrasseries invitées. La nourriture est très bonne. Par contre, le service laisse à désirer, même pour un mercredi soir. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 JulienHuxley (130) Trois-Rivieres, Quebec | July 9, 2012| Updated July 25, 2012 Brewpub/bar in one of Montreal’s most well known dining neighborhoods. Not particularly pleasing interior atmosphere but nothing out of the ordinary for a bar, the patio is nice. The selection of beer is pretty good, they regularly have beers that are pretty rare and downright impossible to find elsewhere in the province. I don’t care too much for their own beers, but they have a good selection overall. Service is reputably bad, especially during events. In the afternoon it is decent however. Definitely not a bad place, but if I’m in the area I prefer to sit at l’Amère à boire. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 AleWife725 (66) Albany, New York | July 5, 2012| Updated July 25, 2012 Several visits. 20 beers on tap! We usually order a few samplers (6 pours each), but the last time I noticed a giant paddle that could hold 20 pours... on the next visit, that challenge shall be accepted! Saint Bock does some great beers, particularly their darker ones (porters, stouts)- they are rich, malty, and really worth savoring. This place is packed on Friday/the weekend, so get in early if you are going to brave one of those days. The atmosphere and the quality of service are greatly effected when it is busy. The snack plates are tasty too, but their prices jumped up a bit high for me over the last year. Saint Bock is a must do for me whenever I visit Montreal! | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 OldStyleCubFan (15) Raleigh, North Carolina | June 11, 2012| Updated July 25, 2012 I can’t imagine a better bar to sample Canadian beer. 20 beers on tap, over half from guest breweries. All smartly selected. Didn’t try the food. Very cool lounge like feel. If you could only go 1 place to sample Canadian micros, this is the place. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 solidfunk (98) Ontario | June 5, 2012| Updated July 25, 2012 Ended up at this place at the end of a long night of bottle drinking. Has a huge menu of bottles, majority Belgian with some good hard to find ones. You won’t find anything imported for under $10, though. They sold sampler flights at the bar from their extensive Quebec beer tap list as well, which compared to the bottle list is a little cheaper. Reminds me a lot of barVolo in Toronto. Didn’t stay as long as I would have liked but I’ll probably be back, especially to check out their taps and possibly shell out the big $$ for a de molen |
