Warm and quaint, I really enjoyed my evening here. Even though they had some nice beers, the menu is not very well thought out and the waitstaff had no real knowledge of beer the evening I was there. I liked the beer selection at Wynís new place much better, but I probably prefer the more rollicking atmosphere here.

A couple of blocks away from the main pedestrianised shopping street and opposite the market hall, this shop unit has neatly been converted into a Belgian style beer house. Itís quaint and laid-back with a number of small cramped tables between the window and the bar at the back. Thereís quite a few more tables upstairs though so if the ground floor is full do not despair. The bar is only a couple of metres in length but packs in plenty of keg ales and beers, mostly from Belgium, and theyíve installed a hand-pump too which includes a locally produced craft ale. The lion share of beers are in bottles with the majority from the Low Counties complimented by other Western European beers as well as some from the States. Each table includes a beer menu which will take you quite a while to peruse given how much choice there is, and if you live locally it will take you a fair number of visits to sample all of what is on offer.

I love this place. Wyn has moved on these days but he still keeps a watchful eye over this amazingly authentic Belgian Cafe. 12 draught beers (all Belgian, no interbrew), 100+ Belgian bottles including all the trappist beers (inexhaustable supply of Westy 8), a good lambic selection and plenty of rarites. Interior feels like you have just stepped off the Grand Place and is about as cosy and homely as I have experienced. In the summer all the windows at the front open to give a really pleasant outdoor feel and in the winter there is a great fire that has kept me warm many times. Only slight downside is the high prices but expect to spend a few pounds extra and you will be fine. Itís an awesome place and well worth a visit.
