A cozy little place is located at the end of a very narrow lane, a short walk away from Groote Markt. The staff are very friendly and helpful, even is their knowledge of beer may not be perfect. The selection is small, as is the place, and it includes some well-known but decent Belgians on tap and definitely more in bottles. nomfood but great atmosphere with live music. Okay prices. I will definitely come back again on my next visit to town.

Another place down a small cobbled alley, and not easy to spot from the street. Like Au Bon Vieux Temps nearby, there is some nice stained glass and they have a radio playing (but not tuned to the Cliff Richard and his ilk channel). A L’Imaige de Nostre-Dame is much more earthy and basic – in former times for tradesman rather than knights perhaps. The main bar is plain and simple with a traditional stove and there’s a cosy cave-like nook with roughly plastered walls and an impressive built-in wooden armoire. The toilets are outside off a miniscule patio patrolled by the pub cat. The beer list isn’t hugely exciting but the St Feuillien Saison on draft was excellent and the locals were friendly. (Visited 2 October 2012).

Visited many times with friends or family. Down the typical alleyway, and feel like being sent back in time. Old wooden interior with seats and walls that are showing the test of time. The menu is limited sporting the usual suspects and some of the beers can be a tad pricey. Good St Feuillien draft. It’s a good place to visit to gain a feel of the typical Brussels bar, away from the crowd. Place can sit roughly 25. I prefer when the owner is there, the young bartender seems uninterested at best. To visit for the atmosphere, not for the beer.

Number three on the Brussels “ancient bar down an alleyway” circuit (after Toone & Aux Bon Vieux Temps). Slightly more earthy than the others. Still has plenty of stained glass, carved wood etc. If you count a couple of tables in the alleyway, primarily used by smokers and right outside the door to the (outside) toilets as a patio, then I guess it has a patio. Soundtrack was radio playing in the background. The St Feuillien Saison on tap was top notch.

Bar con gente local en una callejuela escondida en el centro de Bruselas.

Brussels has blind alleys like Birmingham (England) has canals, they are everywhere. Like Birminghams canals, Brussels alleys often have good bars down them. This place is down an alley, it is earthy, basic old chairs and tables fill thispopular, fun place. A younger set use this place compared to the other alley bars you may have read about, but older people like me are also looked after. I have only been a few times (2006 and 2011), but was very busy on all occasions. Well worth finding, good quality draught beers and a happy, if small (for Belgium) bottle list. There was a very load disco during Dec 2011 and we couldn’t stay inside because of the noise, stood in the alleyway and had our beers!

Small place, not huge list of beers but some good ones available. Ambiance is great, an old place with lots of history and not a loud young crowd. Service good, funny guy behind the bar, friendly and helpful. Worth a try, if only once.

Endroit historique sympathique mais un peu trop dans son jus . Sélection classique sans grand intérêt avec un service inexistant. Cependant endroit a voir si on veut connaitre la définition d’un bruin café.

A tiny place, over fourhundred years old, right next to the Grande Place. A few good beers (I had a Hopus). But very, very smoky.
