Yet another back street pub in the Mill Road cluster that Iíve visited several times and thought Iíd reviewed but hadnít. Rather more lived in, maybe slightly scruffy, feel than some of the others but Iíve always found it a rather welcoming and affable atmosphere. I get the feeling that the beer range has gone down a little from what it once was - half a dozen casks, often including a couple from Oakham (Citra is permanent, Green devil is regular but not quite permanent). They also have a decent selection of 3 or 4 ciders though and a mind-boggling line up of rums. The long-serving (and charmingly cranky) landlord, Pete Wiffin hasnít been in evidence the last couple of times Iíve been in so Iím not sure whether heís moved on. The varying, and sometimes erratic, opening times can present a challenge for building into a pub crawl. Still, canít imagine coming to Cambridge and not visiting this place. Unless Iím dashing to catch the last train. Which is sometimes the case.

A cosy, traditional pub in a side street not far from the Cambridge Blue. It has a nice vibe and a pretty good beer range. A good last stop if youíre on your way back to the railway station. (Visited 21 May 2015).

Unspoilt boozer close to the hustle and bustle of Mill Road. Music-free, conversation-heavy. Dog friendly. Good local crowd; conspicuously light on student custom. A larger bar area dominates, with a snug and counter further back. The beer selection - six handpumps - is largely Anglian: Oakham (Green Devil on my visit) and Growler with a couple farther afield. A tempting looking scrumpy as well. No craft keg, but thereís enough of that elsewhere in town. A nice place indeed. Note the closure in the afternoons, including Saturdays and Sundays.

Possibly not a place for a tourist but if I were to live in Cambridge I imagine I would be here often. Reasonable selection of cask ale and some gravity tap cider too. Friendly locals. Some quiet background music would have been nice.

Located a few moments away from the Cambridge Blue, so makes for a good beginning/end of a pub-crawl. First off this place closes for lunch for a good few hours, which is unusual to say the least! Inside it has a proper local boozer feel. They have 8 hand-pulls, but unfortunately only 4 beers on when we visited. Oakham Green Devil was on, so that was the drink of choice. A solid pub with good cask beer, but nothing terribly out of the ordinary to be honest. Worth a stop on a pub crawl for sure.

Great pub. The beer selection and quality are solid. They don't play music, allowing the walls and people to create the ambiance. But the holy of holies of this bar is the rum lists. That's lists, plural. They've got a minimum of 100 different rums from around the world in a connoisseur's catalog. We now have a date for a nightcap :)

Fairly average back street bar, not a very exciting selection by local standards.

Visited january 2013, last pub on our great Cambridge Pub Crawl :-) Very cosy place, friendly and serviceminded staff. The beers were served in good condition. The place was a bit crowded, but that was expectet on a saturday nigth. Being in Cambridge, this place is for sure worth visiting..

A spacious real ale bar with a wooden interior, just outside the city centre. Up to eight hand pulled real ales, plus a few fizzy lagers, ciders and a decent bottled Belgian selection. Good service and value. Itís worth the walk out here to visit this place and the other three top bars in the area.
