It was very quiet here on a holiday Monday evening, except for the rock music, of course. The staff are obviously passionate about beer, and the tap list was well chosen. Their own commisioned beers were interesting enough. Food was OK. I’ll definitely be back.

Visited half a dozen times in the past 3 years, most recently on August 13, 2013.
This place is awesome. Great music, always a good tap line up (and now they have half a dozen house beers on tap as well), and they do some fun events. The first time I visited I had all the St Lamvinus I could drink at $8/pint. Since then I’ve been given free beers, and even recognized by the bartenders after not having been there for a number of months. This place is a regular stop for me when in Chicago.
US place rating number 500.

small rock bar type place filled mostly with college students. good folks behind the bar didn’t cop and attitude with me in my suit after a dinner at Alinea, and let me sit and enjoy a couple of drinks our of the sweltering heat and humidity. they offer a number of choice drafts including house beers made by Against the Grain in Louisville, Kentucky. only one of these was available on my visit (the pils) and it was decent. worth visiting but according to RB it’s the highest-scoring bar in Chicago, and with that I’d have to disagree, mostly because of ambiance and the common draft list (common compared to other bars in town, not a knock on quality).

A nice, though loud, bar very near DePaul University. The 37 or so tap selection is very nice, and covers a wide range of styles and large number of countries. While there are bottled beers, I did not check out the beer list. We were here after the kitchen closed, so I cannot comment on the food.

(Visited 06/2012): Local Option is located on the north side of Chicago on Webster. Parking on the surrounding streets is fairly difficult to find.
The interior has a red and blue color scheme accented by a chalkboard listing the beers and some snare drum heads. The long bar is along the left side and there are some booths in the back. They also had a marker board that read "Welcome Beer Nerds", which I thought was a nice touch.
The bar has around 30 beers on tap from brewers like Goose Island, Three Floyds, Central Waters, Port Brewing and Local Option house beers. Lots of bottled options too from Bells, Three Floyds, Goose Island and many more.
Service on a weekday afternoon was good, and the bartenders were accommodating considering I showed up right as they opened.
I did not try any food on this visit.
Overall this is a great Chicago beer bar.

Visited mid-afternoon to meet a friend and have a beer. I was the only person in the bar when I got there, and the guy working the bar was very welcoming and friendly. Smaller room, very much a bar layout. Sort of a grunge metal feel to it, though it was very clean. 30 high quality taps, featuring 9 Local Option beers. Food is also available with a Cajun focus. Easily the best draft selection I saw during my weekend trip to Chicago.
88 = ★★★★ (best in area, a must for locals and visitors)
I only use the total score, not the component parts.

Hilariously decorated with a plethora of Miller signs, there is no Miller or other various swill to be found here. The tap list is one of the strongest I’ve seen including Mikeller, Hopsplam, Fastenbier, Dark Horse, etc. Service was personable and highly attentive. I had a veggie salad which was one of the best salads I have had. I will be back if ever in the area. The quiet neighborhood location is another plus.

Friday afternoon 5pm and this place was totally empty. Strange. Anyway there was couple of new American beers for me. They also had some beers brewed for them. Beer list was quite nice but European beers are not that rare for me. Dark and somewhat rock themed interior. Food list was somehow very New Orleans themed (muffaletta, jambalaya, po’boy...)The service was good.

I had the best time of the 3 days at this bar. There were some unusually good beers here, led by one of the four of their own brews, a style I had never tried (Kentucky Common) that yields a long mildly sour finish without cherries. The owner and head brewer and 3rd bartender are a flurry of activity, and could handle even a much bigger crowd than this rainy weeknight. Small Earthy bar, safe area with a lot of students in the street.

This place is bad ass. Tons of taps. Chill dive bar feel - totally metal. Yet relaxed, but it’s late on a Wednesday. Free park right out front. No flights, which blows.
