I was expecting a little more from the high ratings here, but I can’t really say I was disappointed. The selection of beer was great here (both in size and quality). The food was good (the fries, in particular, were incredible). But of course the real draw here is the beer - American craft brews of incredible quality from all over the country. Worth a visit while in Chicago.

I visited here recently on a business trip to Chicago based on the high rating and generally positive reviews. Although I enjoyed my visit there I came away with a somewhat lower (but not at all bad) rating from my experience. Some of their beers are very good...my favorite was "Blood on the Kings"...and they do have a good selection of bottles and a decent selection of other drafts. Their beers are contract brewed at Dog Brewery in MD. I liked the metal music and the decor (kudos for the switchblade draft handles and I loved the sticker that said "employees must carve Slayer into their forearms before returning to work"!). All in all though...the place for me was above average but not as great an experience as other beer bars I visited on this trip (like Hopleaf, Map Room, Revolution, & Kumas Corner...which although all different all had a better vibe in my opinion). Although I recommend checking this place out on a Chicago visit...I wouldn’t call it a must visit if you have limited time.

Parking can be a pain and the such but those bitching about the cost need to visit other Chicago (or for that most metros) beer bars. The food, okay I will give you that one. Sure it is tasty enough but alas not worth the cost. Honestly, this is NOT really a metal bar but a geek place.

Went twice on trip to Chicago. First day on Sunday, every sports bar packed. Local Option was not. Second night, same situation. I found the staff friendly and helpful. Solid selection. Slightly pricey - their beers are pouring at $7. But solid selection in the middle of a neighborhood in Lincoln Park. Didn’t eat there.

A superb brewpub just a short 5 minute walk from the Armitage CTA station. The tap selection is pretty awesome and is dominated by their own excellent beers. The bottle list is pretty decent too. The food was great and the music too. The staff were super helpful all night long. Tasters were not a problem. It’s a little way out of the city but well worth the effort.

Stopped by for a couple of brews. Good selection, both bottle and on tap, a bit pricey though.
Worth a visit

Friday afternoon 5pm and this place was totally empty. Strange. Anyway there was couple of new American beers for me. They also had some beers brewed for them. Beer list was quite nice but European beers are not that rare for me. Dark and somewhat rock themed interior. Food list was somehow very New Orleans themed (muffaletta, jambalaya, po’boy...)The service was good.

Visited half a dozen times in the past 3 years, most recently on August 13, 2013.
This place is awesome. Great music, always a good tap line up (and now they have half a dozen house beers on tap as well), and they do some fun events. The first time I visited I had all the St Lamvinus I could drink at $8/pint. Since then I’ve been given free beers, and even recognized by the bartenders after not having been there for a number of months. This place is a regular stop for me when in Chicago.
US place rating number 500.
