The selection was great but not as broad as I would have liked. The prices were a little higher than I would have preferred, but there is no doubt that this is the place in Chicago.
The only place I went when I got there because all my friends kept saying that Local Option was the only place Iíd be happy with.
I was very very happy with it and will be back next time iím in the area.

Dimly lit bar dive, black and blue walls adorned with skull paintings that stretch along the single-roomed, thin bar. 20 eats in restaurant including a few booths in the back and 10 person bar. More taps than seats... always a good sign. Rolling Stones on rotation for lunch Sunday, pretty empty though a few couples trickle in. The bartender is initially surly, but she warmed up to the point of throwing details about releases and good shops after learning I went to FoBAB and drink good beer. Varied trappist beers, nice local assortment, only lambic on tap Iíve seen in the city (Tilquin). The vibe is chill, would like to see it on a Friday night, but definitely an awesome spot.

Visited on a Saturday evening in October 2011.
I was immediately hooked on Local Option, a nice place located in a residential area. Not too crowded and with Rock music in the background and a great atmosphere in general.
Friedly and laid back staff. 30 beers on tap, three of them from Three Floyds. The bottle list was not as impressive but ok.
It was easy to find this place, around 10 minutes by Metro from downtown Chicago and then a short walk. Would love to visit again in the future.

Stopped by on a Friday for an event called "Mucho Chingo" (spanish translations = lots of bad ass), which it was. The ambience was young hip college (near DePaul Univ.) to 30 year olds. The place is medium size, somewhat reminded me of a mix between Maproom and Delihlas. Kinda a punk rocker theme with a dark look. 30 + taps, that day was a special day so canít really say this would be an everyday thing, but from what Iíve seen on Beermenu Chicago website they have a decent selection with some special beers always showing up. Location is pretty decent too. Overall a nice place.

Two visits, one in June and another in August of this year. Ambience isnít what one might expect for a specialty beer bar, but I can easily get past the íclubí looks given the superb selection. Craft brews from across the US are featured and this is one Chicago joint which seems to have an íiní with the 3F lads. Ales are fresh and served properly with a smile. As one might expect, this bar is a labor of love from a beer loving owner and staff and it shows. Folks are made to feel welcome and accurate recommendations are available if you need them. So good that when staying downtown Iíd pay for a taxi there and back just to have a couple of pints! Not to be missed when visiting Chicago and if you live there, well, youíre a lucky so-and-so.

Visited with my girlfriend during a recent trip to Chicago.
VIBE: hardcore metal dive bar and loud music, which put us off initially, but the staff ensure that everyone feels welcomed. Really cool historical portraits of the city and the signs ("No Specials Ever," "Welcome Nerds," "Purveyors of the Miller High Life") made us laugh. We enjoyed the privacy of our booth in the back of the bar.
SERVICE: quick and attentive waiters are
readily able to make solid suggestions. I
was drinking by style and each server
made appropriate recos based on what I
was looking for. All of them asked me
what I thought of the beers. Food arrived
swiftly and the staff were chatting us up
on our way out. Very friendly people running this place.
SELECTION: silly and robust list of rare
draughts from across the globe. I quaffed
a SKA Steel Toe Stout, Green Flash
Imperial IPA, and Lost Abbey Avant
Garde and also noticed Port Brewing
Older Viscosity, Mikkeller Funky E Star,
Great Divide Belgian Yeti, and Old
Mephisto on tap. Most of the Three
Floyds lineup was available. Didnít even
look at the bottle menu since the draughts
were so good.
FOOD: we only planned to have drinks
but the food menu looked appetizing so
we ordered the Guacamole plate. It was
super fresh and tasty with a thoughtful
presentation. Iíd love to return for dinner
to try the one of the poí boys or jambalaya.
OVERALL: had an awesome time here and would gladly revisit. Definitely one of the top spots that we came across while vacationing in Chicago. A mandatory stop.

I was ecstatic when I arrived at this beer bar. It has been one of my top favorite places to drink beer. I went there during a quick trip to Chicago. We only had the chance to go twice in three days, however I wish it was more! I could not get enough. I love the atmosphere. I am a pretty big heavy metal fan and I love beer. I wish I was able to be there on one of the nights they played only metal! However, I know that will happen down the road. I had Three floyds here for the first time and on our last visit we had a cantillon classic gueuze (yellow label). Upon leaving one of the visits, I was given a free pair of local option socks since I was unable to be there for the Metallica night. What a great experience. Amazing all around, beer, food, and environment.

This is the best beer bar in my life and thatís saying something. The bar is a metal bar that had a sign that said "we love nerds" being a Nerd, and my girlfriend being a metal Nerd this place made us feel at home. The taps were incredible with 3 three floyds taps and 4 central waters taps including an incredible bourbon barrel barleywine and dreadnaught. The food was such a pleasant suprise considering we ordered crab and swordfish. We also cracked a bottle of cantillon gueze which was such a pleasant suprise. Love this place.

If your in the area and looking for a "hip/trendy anti hip/trendy" place for a brew or 2 its worth a stop. Solid selection of craft beers, solid service, bar food.
Not necessarily a place I would go out of my way to stop at but will definitely pop in if Iím in the area.
