74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 BlackHaddock (233) , England | March 30, 2012 Hidden behind a bike rack and down a few stairs this litle gem is easy to miss. Basic wooden bar and furniture this is a bit like a ’dive bar’ I used to frequent in my youth.
At the rear is a free PC for internet browsing, otherwise there is not much to see, apart from a picture of ’The 1st Sea Lord’ himself (Lord Nelson).
All the beers on tap were Danish and as far as I could tell in good order. A lot of the regulars seemed to be drinking the cask (gravity fed) cider, there were two and both were to sour and dry for me or my good lady.
I understand it is owned by a British guy, the young lady behind the bar was Danish I think, but everyones English is so good in Denmark it is difficult to tell. Anyway she was knowledgable and helpful on our visit.

Dark, old fashioned pub. You are allowed to smoke...! Not many places left. And prepare to feel some smoke in your eyes.
Beer selection is fine. Some high standard brews that almost never change and a few - mostly danish - high class brews that are difficult to find elsewhere.
I will return. Mostly for the tap list. Not for the "decor". | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 ShelbyGrey (15) Barcelona, Spain | October 6, 2011 Fantastica seleccion de barriles artesanales de Dinamarca, lugar indispensable si te dejas caer por Copenhagen! | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 rlgk (177) Skövde, Sweden | July 25, 2011 Small bar in the centre of Copenhagen. Decent but not outstanding beer selection. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 Boudicca (387) London, England | July 5, 2011| Updated June 16, 2013 It’s unusual in Denmark to find a small bar that is not either stylish or “hyggelig” (the best translation seems to be “cosy”) and, indeed, many manage to be both at the same time! The Lord Nelson is neither. In fact it’s quite scruffy. When I visited a few years ago they were laying a new floor, which now looks like dirty MDF, but not much else has changed. The décor remains basic - unadorned except for the picture of Nelson which presides over a model ship, a couple of small prints of the Battle of Trafalgar, a barometer, one of those small glass cases containing nautical knots, an Ølenthusiasten award (bronze medal) in a cracked frame and a photograph of a football team.
Although it’s just off Strøget in the heart of town, the Lord Nelson probably isn’t the kind of place you’d come into if it weren’t for the beer range, but I always enjoy visiting. It’s in a basement with the bottom of the windows at street level although, even with the low ceiling, it can seem quite light and airy as there are also windows at the back opening onto an inner courtyard. There are some high top tables, benches against the wall with wooden tables and chairs and high stools at the bar.
The bar is quite small but packs in 14 hand pumps and not a boring beer amongst them. There used to be a printed beer list each day but this seems to have been discontinued.
There’s no food apart from nuts but there is decent music, free wifi and assorted comics and beer-related magazines such as Dansk Ølenthusiasten and Beer Advocate in a stand by the door. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming and usually knowledgeable about their wares, although I have to say that on our last visit the otherwise very nice barman (a New Yorker) served us a Refsvindinge Røde Mor in place of Nordkystens Banjer Øl without realising it; and no recompense was offered when the mistake came to light, even though we’d said when first choosing our beers that we wouldn’t have the Refsvindinge because we weren’t generally keen on them. A petty gripe perhaps, but there you go.

Good service with a dedicated bartender. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 kermis (85) The Hague, Netherlands | May 26, 2011| Updated July 23, 2012 Small, slightly grungy place in the city center. Worth popping in for the selection of Danish micros on draft. Relaxed, with a good locally feel, even though it’s so central. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 magnusgb (11) Trondheim, Norway | January 24, 2011| Updated July 23, 2012 Great small place downtown copenhagen with a lot of good danish brews on tap. Nice staff that gives you a nice rest from the shoppingfrenzy outside. Visit also "Barleywine", which is just around the corner. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 JanLaursen (44) Copenhagen, Denmark | January 19, 2011| Updated August 1, 2012 It might be a bit gritty, but the atmosphere and the concept is excellent. All beer on tap are from Danish microes. |
