76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 Maverick34 (42) New York | December 13, 2010 Decent german selection, good neighborhood, better during the daytime before the crowds from uptown arrive. I like the small front-bar room better than the dining or outside. |
60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 podey (50) New York, New York | March 1, 2013 Decent German beer selection. Has a nice little garden out in the back which is nice in the summertime. My choice of food (the spaetzle) was not very impressive. Overall I’ve been three times and not terribly impressed with this place. I find there are better German bars/restaurants in the city. |
66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 Theydon_Bois (372) The ’Sham, England | February 3, 2013 Have visited a couple of times with a German friend who comes here for a homeland fix when she’s in Manhattan.
Decent German selection and the food is as good as I’ve had outside of Deutschland.
Service suffered a little as the place got busy the last time we were in (a Friday evening) and the crowd was largely young student/frat types who were pretty noisy.
Great place if you want a German fix, I personally wouldn’t come here if it wasn’t for my friend, but that’s not to say it isn’t a decent venue for what it offers. |
78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 kwoeltje (82) Manchester, Missouri | September 21, 2011 Great biergarten in back. Friendly service. Moderate but nice selection of German beers. Food was great - try the goulasch and spaetzle. |
70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 BiddleBrau (76) Fort Washington, Pennsylvania | April 4, 2010 Beer garden wasn’t open on this chilly day but its nice to know it’s there for future reference. Bar was a bit more appealing than back room which was on the small side for a ’biergarten’ type place. Was loud but mostly due to one larger group (my guess large groups may not be an infrequent occurence). Beer list was good but not great when it came to German suds. Food was better than average for a ’beer joint’. Prices weren’t great given LES location. Still a nice feel overall |
76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 joebudzjoe (43) Connecticut | July 12, 2009 Come early if you want a seat outside in the tightly packed, cafeteria style seating in their pack porch. At 4:30 PM on a Saturday, I had the last spot for two. Fun atmosphere and the service is very good. $14 liter steins of a choice of 10 import beers. A fun spot indeed. |
62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 JCastner (11) New York | August 8, 2008 Decent food, fair beer selection. Not a bad place for a few drinks on the Lower East Side. Cons: Price - $9 for a bottle is a little pricey. |
82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 waolsen (64) Littleton, Colorado | April 14, 2008 Nice clean bar. 12 taps. Great German Selection(not a selection you see often). I didn’t see a bottle list but what I saw in the fridge looked impressive. Simple bar area with windows opened to the street. Beer garden in back. Food looked authenitc. Beers were awesome. Great proximity to New Beer and Whole Foods. Definitely worth the stop. |
66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 TeamTrappist (21) jericho, New York | April 2, 2008 Nice looking bar, with some tables in the hallway leading to the back room, which connects to the outdoor garden. The garden is tented in, with a nice amount of seating. The inside is comfortable with nice blonde wooden tables. Beers were all german, with about 12 on tap. We had a nice lunch there, and the food was very good. |
62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 JoeMcPhee (465) Toronto, ON, Ontario | October 1, 2007 Long narrow room leading to a bright and fairly large back garden. A good selection of german styles. The kolsch is always in great shape. I’ve never eaten here, but I like the vibe adn it’s a solid place to kick back a few and shoot the shit. It’s located within five minutes of several other good beer bars, so it’s worth a stop on a lower east side/east village pub crawl. |
