68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 womencantsail (391) Garbage Grove, California | October 15, 2012 Stopped in on my way to Aptos for a wedding. Kind of hard to find using a GPS, it’s actually around the corner as it’s one of a number of suites at the 130 address. Had 6 beers on, most of which were drinkable, though nothing spectacular. Food looked good, but didn’t eat anything. Friendly service, plenty of TVs in the bar area, and decent enough prices. | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 bytemesis (223) Sunnyvale, California | January 2, 2013 This one is hard to find in the database! Stopped by for a sample flight over a long lunch. Decor is pretty standard yuppie brew pub. As others have noted, the beer seems to take second fiddle here, but they did have six beers and a cider on tap. Flight prices reasonable, bartender helpful, beer so-so, didnt try the food. Don’t go looking, but if you are here, why not stop in? | 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 SamGamgee (182) down the whirlpool, California | April 12, 2010 The Los Gatos Brewing Company is first and foremost a restaurant and bar. If you look at their website, you may note that the picture on the home page is of a glass of wine accompanying a plate of fancy looking fare. That about sums it up. Downtown Los Gatos is generally an upscale business district, and the Brewing Company fits right in with upscale grill-type food and a pretty good wine list. Oh, and they also have a brewery in the back. Oddly, they even have a hand-pump that is always serving a different beer. They do lagers just as much as ales, which is refreshing for a brewpub in the area that is not named Gordon Biersch. Only problem is that Gordon Biersch generally makes really good lagers, while Los Gatos is a little hit or miss. You usually get six beers at a time, probably two or three lagers, and one ale on cask. Their El Gatoberfest and Hefeweizen seem to always be on tap, with other normal-strength English, American, and German styles rotating periodically. I’ve seen such delicacies as a Belgian pale ale and bourbon barrel aged stout, but don’t count on anything like that showing up unless you come in more than once. Overall, I give the Los gatos Brewing Company an "If you are in the area and want good food with a decent local beer" rating (the number ratings on places never seem to do much for me these days). The food is good, the ambiance is upscale and generally Los Gatos if you know what I mean (lots of cougars), and the beer can be good, though isn’t a sure thing. | 36 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 8/20 Crit (134) New Westminster, British Columbia | March 29, 2005| Updated September 18, 2008 A bar full of yuppies drinking different varieties of yuppie beer in the heart of Silicone Valley? Go figure. Lots of beers, none of which were memorable. Absolutely packed at lunch hour, hence the poor service | 50 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 2/10 OVERALL 10/20 mrhoppy (115) Santa Clara, California | July 4, 2009| Updated September 18, 2008 Here the beer comes second to the food and the food is expensive. The never have an IPA so I’ll never go back. Cramped and yuppish. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 brianprentiss (32) Portland, Oregon | September 14, 2006| Updated September 18, 2008 Great location, lots of shopping nearby, cool feel inside the restaurant, can be a bit noisy but its a very nice place. good service, decent but not great beer. Tried American Lager which was real strong within category, Brown Ale which was poor, and Marzen which was pretty good. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 CaptKirk (21) Hephzibah, Georgia | November 29, 2005| Updated September 18, 2008 Neat place. Went for dinner. Crafted beer was ok. I normally like the wheat, but did not like their’s. Food was very good, but very expensive | 56 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 berad54 (20) Sunland, California | September 25, 2010| Updated September 18, 2008 Not a beer bar - a restaurant with a brewery attached. Not a great brewery.
Why do so many restaurants use beer brewing as a gimmick. Brew or don’t.
I was driving through Los Gatos on my way to Scotts Valley and I Googled beer and found this place. Not far off the highway, I was excited for a meal and a pint. Meal was good - pint was not. Kind of a lame stuffed shirt crowd. Nice building. | 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 12/20 RunDWP (11) San Jose, California | October 27, 2008| Updated September 18, 2008 More like a restaurant with a bar in the back than a brew pub, in toney Los Gatos. Old building with high roof, and upscale funishings. House beers were pretty unremarkable, except for their Hefeweizen, which was quite good. They apparently don’t have anything on tap besides their house beers, and I didn’t see any other bottles on display walking past the bar. Food average to great. A bit pricey. Nice place to go if you’re in town, but I wouldn’t go too far out of your way. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 Larbytown (8) Golden, Colorado | January 4, 2005| Updated September 18, 2008 cask brown was good |
