78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 lambic (60) Newton Poppleford, England | October 4, 2012 Located in what seems to be an old shop, this is a sort of art studio serving great beer, the Dragons Tears green cap that is brewed by them is a nice light hoppy beer and the beer list is small but well thought out. Open thursdays only when I visited but apparently opening ’proper’ in october, enthusiastic knowledgable beer lovers. Well worth the tram ride (Tram 14 to Bos en Lommerplein- than a two min walk) if not for the beer then for a bit of eccentricity! | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 Borresteijn (141) Amsterdam, Netherlands | June 8, 2012 I have to say I was a bit hesitant at first to enter, as this is located in a shabby ground floor appartment in a shabby neighbourhood. It’s basically a kitchen where the bar is. However, they have great and uncommon beers, a really nice house beer (the green cap, great drinkability), an art exhibition (what this basically is is a beer-funded art exhibition), nice talkative international staff, crowd of artsy folks. In a few months a new location should open for their brewery + tasting room + exhibition. This place is hard to review score-wise. Opening hours are very limited, it’s just an old kitchen, but still this is very appealing to me. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 bierkonijn (11) amsterdam, Netherlands | May 20, 2012 Small place in the suburbs of Amsterdam. Nice underground arty project from a bunch of very dedicated beerlovers. Serving their own brews and a fine selection of high quality and often very rare beer from all over the planet. Be a first hour supporter, wonder what this place will grow to in the future. It’s like seeing the sex pistols before they grew big. |
