46 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 9/20 rondphoto (31) Lakeside Park, Kentucky | October 13, 2012 This store is a good idea that needs better execution. The location works, the set-up/ambience is good, but the guy working the counter knew nothing about his beers, and not only didn’t express any enthusiasm, his cool demeanor and unfriendliness cost him business. Selection is high on Belgium, and includes over a hundred quality selections at a reasonable price, but I don’t feel compelled to return the next time I visit Louisville. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 jhp40219 (11) Louisville, Kentucky | September 28, 2012 Very nice little store in the NuLu area of Louisville, (ie; the new yuppie hipster area). The store is nice and clean with a nice, easy going ambiance. Must be all the original wood and brick that have been cleaned and/or restored in this place. Has kind of an old-timey turn of the century charm to the place. Great selection of beer in bottles! Found several American craft beers that I have not seen elsewhere in Louisville. Lots of imports too! In fact, maybe too many. Lots of imports that look very interesting, but are out of my price range. That’s the main drawback to this place, the prices. Not that they are bad, not at all. It’s just that far too many of the beers I have found are generally a dollar or two more here than in other places in the Louisville area where I have seen them. But that is understandable. LBS is nowhere near as big as some of these stores I an thinking of, and I can’t imagine what they’re paying in rent here, (I’m sure, being this area of town, that is is ungodly). The owner seems to be working all day every day! I have never been in here without seeing him at the counter. He is a very friendly guy, but you pretty much have to engage him in conversation first. Oh and they have a very nice sampling bar too! Rotating taps that you can get samples from, or a whole pint if you wish, for a very fair price! Great little place and definitely worth a visit! | 72 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 2/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 goodtimemom (6) Louisville, Kentucky | August 7, 2012 Walked in with my husband to look around. They have a large selection of beers, however most of them are foreign. The gentleman behind the counter did not acknowledge us when we entered and offered no help. One of his friends came in and he proceeded to have a conversation with him at the tap lines. My husband made his selection, we paid and left. Haven’t been back since. Ignoring customers is not a way to get repeat business, if they care at all. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 tykechandler (10) Kentucky | July 29, 2012 great service, cool vibe, great selection. one of the best spots in louisville. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20 deyholla (200) Oklahoma City, Oklahoma | May 17, 2012 A very nice store in downtown Louisville. A nice ambiance for a store with a bar that has some nice taps. Impressed by the level of selection as well and the staff was helpful. A nice place to stop. | 96 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 19/20 beertroubadour (5) Kentucky | April 26, 2012 They’re knowledgable and you can get just about any type of beer being made in the world. Fine beer and the patio makes this place great. | 58 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 12/20 maxwelldeux (59) Raleigh, North Carolina | April 24, 2012 Great selection, but it’s nigh unusable - I can find little coherent organization to the place and finding any sort of thing is really difficult. Labels would go a long way. I found the ambiance very hipster and pretentious in a really off-putting way. Terrible service - I was ignored for over 20 minutes until I paid. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 shrubber85 (164) Greenville, Indiana | January 28, 2012 The best place to go in Louisville for top of the line beers - have a huge selection of Belgian and Scandinavian beers especially but also a solid selection of German, Japanese, and US craft beers. Solid selection of Three Floyds and New Albanian beers as well. Definitely worth a stop - only a few blocks from Against The Grain and Sergio’s. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Brigadier (136) Bloomington, Indiana | December 2, 2011 While I have yet to make it to Sergio’s the Louisville Beer Store is an excellent addition to the local beer scene. Walking in you are hit by shelves of imports including a complete range of the entire Mikeller Single Hop series. Prices seemed fair considering the general price point for most items.
In addition there were five taps. Not your run of the mill choices one was a De Molen. Choices were either full pours or samples including a flight of everything. A cooler in the back has pre-chilled options for things you want to open immediately.
Overall this might be a place I visit again. While they don’t have the same breadth as Keg Liquors across the river they seem to be trying to serve a different market. Both should be successful. | 98 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 20/20 rickycore (3) Louisville, Kentucky | November 4, 2011 I love LBS. I could spend hours in the store trying American and import craft beers alike and I in fact have done this many a time. The staff is excited and passionate about beer and it shows. There is unfortunately not a lot of room in the actually store but that’s ok because the experience more than makes up for it. |
