Il locale è piccolo e modesto, niente di memorabile come ambiente. Servizio e birre eccellenti, un must!

Not sure what all the fuss is about really. This small two roomed bar with a short connecting corridor can hold about 30 people comfortably, 10 in the front and 20 in the back. Friendly staff, with noisey customers and a speaker system that is too load. They were alternating between football highlights and a music channel on our visit and the sound almost defeated us. We were sat in the back by ourselves and were joined by a couple from London, we shouted at each other for a while, then gave in. A request to have the speakers turn off or lowered was met with it’s OK in the front bar and we can’t alter individual rooms. Beer was fine but it’s not anywhere near one of the top 100 bars I’ve been in around the world.

Tappa obbligata se si vuole bere qualcosa di artigianale decente a Roma - Trastevere. Ampia scelta di birre. Le spine variano sempre ed a prezzi ottimi. Solo per bere...ma con questa qualità-prezzo altro non serve.

Over a decade ago this bar was opened as a football pub (hence their website). They have since evolved into one of the coolest beer bars I have ever been to. They have a small number of taps (relatively), but the choices are definitely quality over quantity. If you visit Rome and are a beer dork, this place should absolutely be on your short list. The same people own the beer/pizza place across the street (Bir & Fud). Ask what the name of this place means! Best name in existence.

Visited in spring 2010, yet another place I thought I’d rated already. Sadly at the time I had no idea who Beck Braeu was, and certainly not Andreas Gaenstaller. If I had, I would have told my niece to take a walk for a few hours. As it was, I only sampled three beers (including the at-the-time infamous Tipopils, which didn’t hold up to the hype for me due to the rather rough/green hop character), and totally ignored the Beck brews. So sad. Thankfully I eventually discovered Andy’s Zoiglstube a year later, but wow if I’d only known then. In fact, I don’t think any of the beers I tried here were that great (both draft and bottle), but they were all at least decent. And there was certainly plenty to choose from. But since my niece was in tow and didn’t drink alcohol, I felt pressured to get a couple ratings and move on (to the Bir & Fud place next door for pizza and a Belgian ale). Oh, and alas, yes...I used the restroom here, and yes...it’s as nasty as they say, perhaps on a par with Toronado’s. A fun little place that I will likely revisit someday even though I wasn’t blown away the first time (but may have been if only I’d tried one of Andy’s Beck beers).

You can get different, but you cannot get better than MCSVAF. It has the best selection possible--for me--and if I had a bar it would look a lot like this. There are places with more taps, and there are places with greater obscurity of selection, but there could not possibly be a better curated selection of beers. They seem to retain a dedicated Cantillon tap, and a Gänstaller tap. That alone would be enough to keep me happy but they also have a dedicated Itslian hoppy pils tap (it was Tipopils last night), and even two cask-conditioned English style ales (including a porter). Most of the other taps were Italian microbrews of high quality and breadth of style (black IPA;Flemish sour...). No duds. Even the double IPA was an intelligent choice of a Hillside Farmstead/Cigar City collaboration that knocked it out of the park. Unbelievable. I barely glanced at the bottle selections but they are the same caliber--from Cantillon onwards. All the other bar elements are in place too. Unpretentious friendly service even when busy; busy; tasteful music selection; terrible toilets; 7 days/week. TO GO cups. What more could you possibly want? OH--it’s in ROME!
