100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 Scauca (35) Lovere, Italy | July 15, 2008 Walking thru Trastevere alleys you’ll find this incredible beer temple, where a devotee of the art of brewing, namely manuele, will drown you in tapped & bottled rarities, with such an unbelievable modesty, knowledge, helpfulness and typical roman pleasantness. Turnover of best italian and worldwide craft beers. Something special. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 RomanW70 (12) Providence, Rhode Island | July 9, 2008| Updated July 10, 2008 Words are inadequate to express the degree of my gratitude for the extreme generosity of Emanuele and the staff of Ma Che Siete Venuti a fa. There are bars with larger selections of beer, and there may even bars with beers of higher quality, although very few, but there is no place in the world I would rather have a beer than here. I walked into the bar, said that I loved beer and wanted to learn more about Italian beer, and was treated to absurd generosity by Emanuele. He poured all the locally made beers, Cantillon Lambic, Oerbier, and Pannepot, all on tap, opened several special bottles of beer to share together with me and the bar staff, gave me a t-shirt and wouldn’t accept a dime from me. I brought a bottle to share the next day in gratitude and the whole process started again. Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fa represents the absolute best of beer culture, a culture of sharing and friendship. Emanuele also cultivates personal relationships with the best breweries in the world (Struise, Mikkeller, Narke). I can’t wait to come back. Emanuele and his staff have found a lifelong friend in me. The best and most generous beer experience I’ve ever had. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 Furseth (26) Kungälv, Sweden | June 4, 2008| Updated July 10, 2008 Nice Staff(The owner) and nice selection. This is a bar you have to visit when your in Roma! I coming back!! | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 Nicola (1) Novelo, Italy | June 3, 2008| Updated July 10, 2008 Probably the best pub i have ever been in. The beers are the best from all over the word and almost any month you can find a different one. Emanuele colonna, one of the owners, serves the beer perfectly and he has a very important culture in beer. The best place ever!!!!! | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 Stew41 (118) Woodend, Australia | May 31, 2008| Updated June 13, 2010 Don’t know what I can add to the other reviews other than to confirm that this bar is world class and competes easily with the leading bars of Amsterdam and Belgium. Tiny it may be but it does not lack for character or range. Apart from many Italian micros there’s plenty of Cantillon (inc tap), Drie Fonteinen, Yeti, Mikkeller, etc etc. All up 12 taps plus 50+ bottles. Taps in May 2008 inc Struise Pannepot, Saison Du Pont, Cantillon Iris 2003, Olfabrikken RIS. Great service very knowledgable and friendly (refer Birre & Fud review). To flog a dead horse it would be criminal to visit Rome and not have a beer here. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 Crosling (70) Loveland, Colorado | May 18, 2008 Some places open to capitalize on the beer culture, while others make the beer culture. Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà apparently opened in 2001, although I visited Rome in 2004 and never knew they were around. Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà has perhaps singlehandedly changed the entire beer culture in Rome. I visited on a Friday night and sat quaintly at the bar for five hours. I was amazed by the hundreds of quality draughts beers that were poured, from Belgians to the best Italian beers. I was the only tourist, nearly everyone poured was a young Roman, both females and males and they had no interest in beers of low quality. This place is setting up Italy’s beer scene for the future. About 12 beers were on draught, all of high quality, with a bottle list of nothing but the best available. The staff and owner were incredibly kind, knowledgable and a pleasure to be around. I have been to some of the best bars in the world and Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà ranks among the best on my list. This place is very special. When in Rome, you would be a fool not to visit.
| 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 romabrew99 (1) , Norway | May 12, 2008 Manuele goes through alot of effort to get the best beers on tap. This is why this place is by far the best pub in Rome and possibly all of Italy.... Its not big in size but its big in beer and its a MUST for any beer lover living or traveling to rome...
If you go to Roma and you dont go here there is something wrong with you. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 CinnamonGirl (1) Tromsø, Norway | January 5, 2008 I visited the place last October, and now finally get around to give my comments. Just a lovely place, excellent selection of beers, perfectly treated and served. Too bad Ølfabrikken Porter on tap was gone. Manuele is the very friendly and helpful host, and he took us across the street to Bir&Fud - a restaurant with an impressive selection of Italian crafted beers, of which we were served a nice line of tasters. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 joes (4) Oirschot, Netherlands | October 13, 2007 Actually I had no time to visit this place, but as I was passing by I decided to go in quickly and see if I could get a bottle or two to take home. The barman (I think his name was Manuel) forced me to sample some Italian draught beer, introduced me to some people and made it difficult for me to leave. Great beers on tap from Italian micro’s, but also La Rulles, Olfabrikken and Mikeller. A must-visit for beerlovers in Rome, also Bir + Fud opposite this bar. I’ll be back soon!!! | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 ElGaucho (207) Minnetonka, Minnesota | September 11, 2007 After a long day of sight seeing, I dragged my wife here, almost literally. The place quite frankly is tiny. ChristianSA mentioned there were people drinking in the street outside. That would almost have to be the case if it were busy at all. We went around 5:30pm on a Sunday in mid-August and were basically the only people there outside of the bartenders, the door man and one other bar patron. So, we didn’t have any space issues. The beer selection is outstanding for Italy, and still good by U.S. standards, if primarily for the reason that you can’t get some of the selections at home. You can check out their website to get a good idea of what they have on, although it appears that some of the taps change from time to time. Because it’s off the beaten path and because of it’s appeal to the niche beer market, I’m guessing the place is mainly frequented by locals. If I had more time, or if my wife was more into beer, I would have liked to stay a few more hours. As it was I tried 2 beers, the Tipopils, which was underwhelming and the Gordon Platinum which was pretty good. A must stop for any Ratebeerian while in Rome. |
