70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 3fourths (1122) Boulder, Colorado | November 4, 2012 Small and cozy interior is beautiful to look at and immerse yourself in. Hipsterish staff. Heavy cigar smoke (which you know about going in) makes it difficult to simply enjoy a beer. For that, there’s the two tables out on the cold sidewalk. Ah well. | 76 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Nuffield (104) Roseville, Minnesota | September 23, 2012 The vibe here is really awesome--totally chill and sophisticated--but little else did it for me. The beer list at 11 p.m. on a Friday night unfortunately had a lot of stuff erased, and there wasn’t anything that was too special or rare. And the smell is good and bad: you know you’re in a cigar bar, and it wasn’t oppressive, but it would make it difficult to get aromas from beer. Not my favorite place in Madison. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 arkurzynski (72) West Bend, Wisconsin | August 29, 2012 Went for pre-GTMW Bells party. Nice looking place with a great looking bar, leather couches, and a nice warm atmosphere. Bartenders were working their ass off and service was great despite the crowd. Obviously Bells selection was ridiculous, but have heard selection is always good. As a cigar bar, the only thing that would deter me is the smoke, but this is what they’re going for...so can’t dock them for it. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 ElGaucho (208) Minnetonka, Minnesota | August 22, 2012 Have been here twice on the eve of the Great Taste of the Midwest for Bells Brewery parties. As such, the entire tap line system was taken over by Bells, so it was likely not representative of what is usually on tap. But, if ownership is in kahoots enough with Bells to be selected multiple times for this pre-fest gathering, then it’s worth a shot the other 364 days of the year. Relatively small place that has some patio seating on the sidewalk outside. A recent post on their Facebook page mentioned the following beers on tap out of their 19 drafts: DFH 90 min, 3F Arctic Panzer, Potosi Templeton BA Oatmeal Stout & Fullers ESB. A must for cigar lovers and for beer lovers that don’t mind cigar smoke. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 imthebest (23) , | July 16, 2012 Very nice ambiance if you don’t mind the smoke! Leather couches, nice bar, not too crowded early in the evening. Go-to place for the less common Bells offerings. Bartenders quick and courteous. A great low-key place to hang out with friends while drinking great beer. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 drpimento (131) La Crosse, Wisconsin | June 29, 2012 Cigar bar. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable bartender. Nice old, original stamped tin ceiling, brick wall. Good background music and breweriana on the wall. Mellow crowd. Very good prices. Draft selection is very good and mostly domesitc micros with a few good imports plus a full bar and a wine selection. Outside seating. Great ventilation. Good selection of cigars. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 dionysus (10) Arizona | February 26, 2012 Every major city needs a cigar bar, and I’m glad to have stumbled upon this one on my recent trip to the area. Selection isn’t massive, but is typically pretty solid. Excellent service from a fairly knowledgeable staff. If cigars are your thing, or you just enjoy the smell, I would definately recommend swinging by if you happen to be in Madison. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 BVery (324) Burnsville, Minnesota | September 3, 2011 Cigar and beer bar. 17 taps, 1 cask, and 5 bottles when I was here. Cool vibe, decent prices, friendly staff. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 Drake (394) Ivy, Virginia | August 14, 2011 Stopped here for a GTMW pre-party. All Bell’s lineup with some good stuff. I caught a glance at the regular lineup which had some good stuff. The staff was good. They were able to work with me so I could try six different beers, which was cool given they were dealing with some insane crowds. Comfortable interior with a bar and couches. I mainly was in the outdoor cafe. The previous rater seems to be calling out other raters for mentioning smoke. Yeah, its a Cigar Bar, but what that rater doesn’t seem to accept is that Maduro is a place that is open to the public and if the business plan they chose is offensive to some parts of the public, they have to accept that. Granted I’m not going to hold it against them, but I completely understand why others would. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 CheersMate (147) Fremont (Seattle), Washington | April 26, 2011 Do you want a cigar, and a beer? Or hell, you can just grab a beer here, as long as your pussy-ass lungs can handle a little bit of smoke. If you want, and don’t mind the aforementioned things, then please, go to Maduro. The service? Awesome. The cigars? Pretty good. The beer selection? For a cigar and liquor bar -- it’s pretty good. No assuming, and very relaxed. If you’re having a tough day, head here. I loved this place and I definitely plan on heading back before I leave. It’s in a very cool part of town -- for Madison. The prices were awesome. The ambiance had a classic, gentleman’s lounge feel to it. Damn, I really, really like this place. Why are there so many people mentioning the smoke? You should know that this place allows smoking. At least, any rational human being that does their research before visiting any place should know that they allow smoking. Quite honestly, I don’t think that they’re trying to get on their knees for beer geeks. Sorry. |
