A beautiful old pub that serves great beers and great food as well. I liked their beers a lot, and there was a pretty good selection of them. Go for one of their meat pies.

Tried to get here earlier in the day before the National Winter Beer Festival opened but unfortunately it didn’t open itself until 12:00 noon on a Saturday. Finally managed to get here early evening and stayed for a couple of hours. This pub has got just about everything the beer selection approx’ 6-8 handpumps with about 5 from their own brewery and then some beers from micro’s Salopian and Leyden were amongst the others on show when I visited, both were very good, the Marble Ginger was an absolute cracker. The interior of this pub is worth a visit in itself, stunning tilework on the walls and ceiling along with some amazing mosiac work on the floor. This pub has got to be amongst my favourite pubs now, loved it! Even the food which I never had (but Craig and family did) looked and was fantastic so I’m told. This pub is a classic.

A bit of a hike from the center, but still worthwhile. A beautiful example of a city pub, with a good beer selection and hearty food.

An excellent pub in Manchester’s best beer hunting zone. Large selection with lots of beers I had never heard of and a few interesting bottles. The best way to get Marble beers also. A winning combination really, good location, solid staffing, remarkable selection.

A wee bit out on a limb following the demise of the Beer House and Pot Of Beer but still worth the walk up from the Swan Street area when doing the Northern Quarter crawl. Always a good few of the home beers on which normally includes the Ginger Marble which is one of those beers that you will love or hate for me it’s the former and I’m always happy to have this if there’s no new beers available. Lovely tiling and mosaic layouts in this pub and you are drawn to the ceiling area which I must say is impressive.

Long standing scooping pub in the "Northern quarter" as it’s called nowadays - or the area around the Beer House as everyone else knows it as. The Marble competed with the Beer House from the late 80s with the title of "best pub" changing hands frequently as both tried to source the rarest beers with some success. In the late 90s the pub installed a brewery in the back room with help from the iconic Brendan Dobbin who helped with the recipes - with the result that the beers were fantastic - although this spelt the end of the pub as a scooping venue except when a new beer was produced. When Mark Dade left in 2000 to set up Boggart Hole Clough the new owners converted the beer range to organic with dire results, but the quality has improved vastly recently and almost touches the previous brilliance and, as a bonus, the pub now sells various guest beers making it one of the essential visits when in Manchester.
