Small tight pub but great on Fridays for the crowd and patrons. Great and varied selection of well kept ales which makes it a must. Service can be hard to get but merely because of the crowds because the staff is very attentive when it becomes your turn. One of my top 5 pubs in London

This is, of course, one of the main attractions for ratebeerians visiting London. A wide and ever changing range of up to 16 hand pulled real ales. The pub is situated in an interesting beer area with Utobeer, The Rake and Beer Wharf just around the corner. The restaurant upstairs serves decent pub food. We had fish cakes, Orkney mussels and prawns to a reasonable price. A table by the window really gives the guests an impression of the busy Borough Market on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. After lunch we went down and sampled quite a few well kept British Ales, all served at a very pleasant drinking temperature (Saturday, 1st August 2009).

Large beer range and normally in condition. Meantime beers as well as the 10 or so real ales. If you can’t fit in the pub you can always spill onto the pavement outside. A must visit.

Nice pub close to the Borough Market with a broad - ever changing - selection of real ales. Gets very crowded during the market days. Absolutely worth a visit !

I like the location (Southwark) and I have a beautiful picture from the road; very typical place. The best thing is that they have about 12 cask ales, and they change them very frequently. The staff has been quite helpful. It’s almost impossible to eat, as they close the kitchen at 3pm!!!

I ran into two gentleman who were fellow beer hunters in the Market Porter on a trip to London last month. They were sampling all 21 taps with half pints, and making notes to be added to the Camra site. This is the traditional beer mecca in Soutwalk, and highly recommended for the more esoteric brands. Food was not good...try the sushi bar next door.

Pretty much an essential stree corner pub with nice wooden floor, walls, bars and everything basically. Good natural lighting ensures that the place is not too dark. Chatty, active locals make for a mixed crew that ranges from the beer geek to the afterwork suit and tie worker. Solid selection obviously. A classic, worthy London pub with excellent service.

A pure english-style pub, with a massive selection of english beers on the cask, always changing also during the same day (except for the harvest sussex bitter). Bottle selection is much narrow. Ambiance is enjoyable (also if is quite hard to find place inside during in the late afternoon). It is full of beers coaster on the walls. The majority of the staff is quite nice, but not expert niether interested in beers. This place is a must in London if you want to enjoy a classic (or less classic) english ale. (just in front of it you can also find the utobeershop).

A very good example of an English pub. Always loads of people with a good selection of ales and ciders. Go around lunch if you don’t like crowds, anytime else if you don’t mind them. If around Borough Market, I would recommend this over other pubs in the area.

A very pleasant and sociable pub. It’s clean place. We were there in the morning, but there where already a lot of people in the pub. They ’ve got a lot a different beers . The staff is very friendly. Next time in London, we’ll go back, to enjoy more beers and the meal.
