You can choose only four beers and actually that’s all.
Food is quite good and combination with beers is quite reasonable.

Have been living around the corner at the next Tor for a while now. Depending on the time of year a rim-packed tourist Keller dive with a tiny alleyway terrace instead of a Biergarten or a basement-level Brauhaus with OK bar service. Bit lacking in space and atmosphere in either case. Waiters can be as snooty, pedantic or lethargic as anywhere to be found this side of the Alps. Redeeming feature is the truly stellar unfiltered Pils, rich and yet excellently sessionable, especially on pitcher nights - and which I invite you to compare with Feierling’s even sweeter Tettnang monobrew called Inselhopf. Other beers are so-so, with times of experimentation where they had a Rauchbier on offer apparently long gone. On-site sale of growler fills and 5L minikegs for €12. - - - Note to Freiburg vistors: always up for a quick trade, bottle share or pitcher chip-in, as I live at a stone’s throw from all 3 local brewpubs.

Visited on a wet and windy afternoon in Sep 2013.
I thought it a strange place: down a few steps from the entrance and you have to walk past the kitchen area and serving bar. Some seats (roped off) to the left, the rest are through towards the rear. The whole joint seemed to be aimed at food more than beer, at least it did at 13:30 on a Wednesday when we entered.
Brewing coppers and tanks in evidence and the semi- modern designed high tables with stools next to more traditional longer tables with benches worked well. Tiled floors and bar fronts and brewery stuff hanging around.
We shared a half chicken and a Laugenbrezel: the Brezel was lovely, the same could not be said of the chicken. The three beers were OK rather than exciting, the staff friendly and unassuming, only coming over when called.
Glad I’ve visited, not really bothered about returning though.

Spacious 20s-themed brewpub situated next to the Martinstor, lots of wood, comfortable enough. The food is ok, though quite expensive, and the three house beers, which are all rather sub-par, are served too cold. I’d say get the ticks and move on to Hausbrauerei Feierling for some food.

Visited an a very hot summers evening in July 2013. Placed in an alley just opposite the old wall of Freiburg, this place has a lot of ambiance. Selection of beers this evening was narrowed to just three beers: The excellent Pils and a more average Dunkel and Hefeweizen. The menu has both regional dishes and more typical German offerings. Food was great, not pricey. Nice staff, only German-speaking. Well worth a detour after a trip to the beautiful Schwartzwald region.

Not a great choice of beers. Quality ok not marvellous. The ordinary hefeweiss is contract brewed elsewhere to the Martin’s recipe, the friendly staff advised me.

Visited in July ’11 on a Saturday night - last stop of the evening around 11pm.
Modern set up in terms of decor, kettles on display.
Was starting to thin out after we had finished our first beer.
We had a couple of the house beers - both adequate.
Worth popping by on a crawl of Freiburg.
Got the glass to show for it ;)

My kind of place: big open kitchen, nice beers, big tables where you just sit and make friends with your neighbours. The food is good and not at all expensive.

Nice little brewpub in Freiburg’s old town with an appealing terrace and typical brewpub interior for this part of the world. The food (matjes filets in cream sauce with apples; paprika sausages with nice potato salad, Black Forest cake) was delicious, and nicely accompanied the well-made house brews. This should not be your first stop in Freiburg, but it is interesting enough for a stopover if you are staying in town for more than a day.

Nicely located in the centre of Freiburg. Open kitchen inside the brewpub, also the bar quite frontal in the centre, some brewkettles at the back. Outside some terrace on the streets. On one hand it’s quite nice, but on the other hand it takes too much space. Only 2 of their beers available when I was there.
