I didnít visit here on this my most recent trip to Cambridge 19th & 20th December 2014, however I had been here on an earlier visit. Its an interesting place in that it has the feel of a back street bar and yet situated where it is, it is very close to the centre. On our visit there was a very good range of cask ales (in fact my last visit was on my own as Loz was working at Sanger) there is also a good choice of bottled beers (nothing too out of ordinary) I do need to pop in here again at some point but Cambridge for its size is blessed with a ridiculous amount of very good boozers.

Twin roomed, twin bar real ale house with a ridiculous but very welcome amount of cask ales on offer. The bar in the smaller front room sports enough cask pumps to keep you busy for quite a while, but it is worth heading through the small corridor to the bar at the back where thereís a greater number of differing ales available with plenty of different styles available. The furniture is a tad simple in both rooms which are fairly ordinary in design for a traditional pub but thereís nothing negative about this. The outdoor area is sandwiched between the building and the multi-story car park at the pubs side and is fairly extensive and mostly covered with large framed pump clip collages on the walls. Food is served here.

The Maypole in my opinion is the best pub in Cambridge. It is located on a backstreet, so thankfully is not full of tourists. They have the most varied selection of cask ale in town. Plenty of non golden-ale options which are all too common in the region! They also have a small, but interesting selection of bottles which include Belgian, Dutch, Italian & US beers. Staff were friendly and attentive. A Cambridge must-visit.

Backstreet free house near the city centre. 10 real ales on, plus about 30 bottles. The real ales are well-thought out and varied, two Miltons and the rest from other small breweries. The bottles include craft ale from many countries.

Small and cosy Pub in quiet street near city center. Good selection of beers, my favorite was Elgoods Black Eagle Imperial Stout. Food was tasty, surprisingly not obvious pub meals but Italian dishes. Service was quick and polite. Recommended pub.

Visited this pub 19/1-2013.
First pub-stop after visiting the WinterAle Festival. Placed a bit from main street, so can be a bit tricky to find. Clean and cosy place, friendly staff and the beers in good condition. There is some bootle beers as well. Think they do food as well, but didnīt have any..

A real utilitarian boozer, this place. Probably the has the most unattractive exterior of any pub Iíve seen in the UK. The interior is slightly more approachable, but still somewhat sterile. Plenty of long tables with lots of seating. They have two bars featuring a good range of sessionable real ales, in addition to some more adventurous bottles, including Goose Island, Flying Dog and De Molen. In terms of the cask offerings this place definitely has one of the best ranges in Cambridge. Prices are fair, the bartenders were friendly. Certainly one of the must-visit pubs in town.

Amazing little pub in the backstreets of Cambridge. Super ale selection. Great service. These guys are really passionate about their ales and looking to grow the business. One of the best real ale pubs Iíve been in so make the effort to find it. You wonít be disappointed.

Iíve been there twice and the first time the place was almous empty but the second time there was no room left.
The real ale selection was good. My first choice was Buntingford The Maypole Golden Hoppy Bitter 3,8% (2010, 2011)

The Maypoleís located on a quiet street not far from Jesus College in the centre of Cambridge. The pubís large, with a big beer garden. Itís often crowded with students, and the boisterous atmosphere makes for a nice ambience. The 8+ cask selections were interesting, featuring many local micro-breweries that I had never even heard of. The beer was well-kept and the barman knew his product. Overall, this is a very good pub that Iíd strongly recommend to beer lovers visiting Cambridge. Its location close to the centre of town is a real bonus too, as most of Cambridgeís best pubs are located in less convenient locations.
