Old bar with a cool vibe. Generic craft draft menu which should include local PA stuff. I wouldnt recommend going out of your way for this (beer-wise).

(backlogged in abstinentia) Visited 09/2012 around noon, lured in by the authentic Old World city manor exterior: inside was a 15% full, run-down, undercooled, understaffed and downright depressing Irish pub waiting on those who came for a preprandium stout in a characteristic dig. Bored service that overcharged. Nice enough tap list for an Irish Pub, but had to send one pint back as obviously off. Courtesy Lancaster Milk Stout was underchilled, as were our lunching intentions by that time. I would imagine this warm up to just the right authentic dive to be when bar-hopping, but they made it hard to feel any of that that particular noon.

Stopped in here for a couple of beers after a long quest for cheese steak. Wed night around 9 pm down the alley way past the neon sign and the place was packed with 20 somethings singing karaoke. Downstairs is a big open room with lots of wood around the tightly backed bar off on the right side wall. Certainly a college dive bar vibe here, but there’s never anything wrong with that. Decent taps maybe 20 deep with a focus on local the reminded my of how VT respects their homegrown. Lots of beer I hadn’t heard of and enough the keep me interested. I sat at the bar and had bouts of chit chat with a busy barista. I didn’t have any food while I was here but it seemed to skew towards the pub grub variety. Pricing was pretty good and the bar is kind of cool, I’d head back for a pop if I was in town again.

Cool place, lots of history. Dark and normally crowded. Fun place to go, especially on karokee or to watch a game on tv. Atmosphere is really neat and historic.

Visited McGillin’s on a Wednesday afternoon in May ’10. Oldish building - think it claims to be the oldest bar in Philly? 20 taps of craft, nothing too spectacular but I remember having some Stoudts offerings and something from NY state. Service was good and we shared some snacks. Place wasn’t too busy when we arrived around 3.30/4pm but started to fill up by the time we left with an after office type of crowd. Not a go to destination but if you’re passing by - why not !

Cheap, that’s why I go here. $1 sleeves of PBR and 2-4 buck for happy hour eats. The bar is olde(1800’s), I was told. It is a good place to watch a game and get a couple of pints after work. If I want great I go somewhere else, but this place doesn’t dissapoint if you are realistic about your expectations.

Nice selection. Yard’s IPA was outstanding. Private room upstairs, great for parties.

Tucked in an alley was very crowded a nice bar to come and watch a game they had lots of flat screens throughout ..... the whole inside of this place and bar are just awesome and historic ... old liquor licenses, pictures and even a dumbwaiter in the middle of the bar made it such a throwback place ... taplist was all local and their own brews made by stoudts ... food was great nice mix of appetizers, entrees and sandwiches with their own deli list featured and even a mix of light seafood .... the bartenders were very friendly, called you by name and were prompt second time I came it was still packed and the server was kind and quick for being so busy ... the prices were not bad at all i’d say lower than average for center city ..... this is an awesome place to catch a game and have some nice local brews the upstairs was packed as well and can be rented out

This is the best bar I have ever been to. The owner refuses to serve Guinness because he will not put up their decorations over all the historic wall coverings. That kills me! Great atmosphere and always a blast. Cheap good food. Bartenders are great and always happy to chat you up. Great beer selection featuring some awesome local brewers. Just a great vibe in this place from the second you walk in the door. An absolute must for anyone looking to check out a bar that’s on the level of a great European pub.

Great place. Locals on tap along with their own Stoudt’s brews, however most are ordering pitchers of macros. This really is a must stop, even when its crowded the crowd is always in good spirits.
