66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 ryanscourt (10) Pennsylvania | April 22, 2013 Cool place, lots of history. Dark and normally crowded. Fun place to go, especially on karokee or to watch a game on tv. Atmosphere is really neat and historic. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Theydon_Bois (394) The ’Sham, England | March 5, 2013 Visited McGillin’s on a Wednesday afternoon in May ’10.
Oldish building - think it claims to be the oldest bar in Philly?
20 taps of craft, nothing too spectacular but I remember having some Stoudts offerings and something from NY state.
Service was good and we shared some snacks.
Place wasn’t too busy when we arrived around 3.30/4pm but started to fill up by the time we left with an after office type of crowd.
Not a go to destination but if you’re passing by - why not ! | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 14/20 aj1451 (12) Vancouver, British Columbia | February 10, 2012 Cheap, that’s why I go here.
$1 sleeves of PBR and 2-4 buck for happy hour eats. The bar is olde(1800’s), I was told. It is a good place to watch a game and get a couple of pints after work. If I want great I go somewhere else, but this place doesn’t dissapoint if you are realistic about your expectations. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 BeerBellyZ (10) Pennsylvania | December 14, 2011 Nice selection. Yard’s IPA was outstanding. Private room upstairs, great for parties. | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 italianjohn (151) Penndel, Pennsylvania | November 27, 2011| Updated January 29, 2012 Tucked in an alley was very crowded a nice bar to come and watch a game they had lots of flat screens throughout ..... the whole inside of this place and bar are just awesome and historic ... old liquor licenses, pictures and even a dumbwaiter in the middle of the bar made it such a throwback place ... taplist was all local and their own brews made by stoudts ... food was great nice mix of appetizers, entrees and sandwiches with their own deli list featured and even a mix of light seafood .... the bartenders were very friendly, called you by name and were prompt second time I came it was still packed and the server was kind and quick for being so busy ... the prices were not bad at all i’d say lower than average for center city ..... this is an awesome place to catch a game and have some nice local brews the upstairs was packed as well and can be rented out | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 duhoss74 (10) Jersey City, New Jersey | January 31, 2011| Updated January 29, 2012 This is the best bar I have ever been to. The owner refuses to serve Guinness because he will not put up their decorations over all the historic wall coverings. That kills me! Great atmosphere and always a blast. Cheap good food. Bartenders are great and always happy to chat you up. Great beer selection featuring some awesome local brewers. Just a great vibe in this place from the second you walk in the door. An absolute must for anyone looking to check out a bar that’s on the level of a great European pub. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 Leafs93 (107) Conshohocken, Pennsylvania | January 18, 2011| Updated January 29, 2012 Great place. Locals on tap along with their own Stoudt’s brews, however most are ordering pitchers of macros. This really is a must stop, even when its crowded the crowd is always in good spirits. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 gekosoave (9) Pennsylvania | August 9, 2010| Updated January 29, 2012 Tucked nicely in an alley, it is well worth the trip. I love looking at all the old liqour licenses on the wall. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Mooncattie (56) Markham, Ontario | June 14, 2010| Updated January 29, 2012 I can never visit Philadelphia without being reminded of the story of the Texan who...well, never mind. I stumbled into McGillin’s out of the heavy rainfall that was Philly on May 18, 2010. Flyers gear hanging from the rafters for the local hockey team on an improbable playoff run. Food wasn’t terribly memorable, room was fairly empty on a mid-afternoon, but I was impressed with the friendly staff. I tried two of the McGillin’s products (by way of Stoudt’s), the lager and the IPA. Both were fresh, cold, very tasty. I don’t find a lot of real old authentic downtown pubs in my travels, but this one is a place I would happily return to whenever I visit Philadelphia. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 MaltDawg (15) Richmond, Virginia | September 16, 2009 Tuesday night visit and the place was rocking. Rowdy 20-30 yr old crowd with a sports bar/pub atmosphere. Good selection of local and imports on tap. Bar keep was friendly and very attentive...no waiting for a beer here! |
