One of the nicer McMenamins establishments. The place is an old elementary school which has been converted. Like all McMenamins place, the Kennedy School is very well maintained with a vinatge feel to the whole building. There are several bars (&quo;Detention&quo;, &quo;Honors Bar&quo;, etc). The food in the resaurant is pretty good. There is outdoor seating and an outdoor pool for guests who are staying the night. There is also a movie theater where you can drink McMenamins beer and eat pizza while watching recently released films. The Kennedy School is an excellent establishment, worthy of a visit while you’re in Portland.

Feels like you are back in school. Looking at the pictures and afraid the principal is around the corner. 6 beers on tap. Nice menu. Very cool patio.

Really unique...old school house with a wicked maze of long corridors separating former classrooms. Ate outside on a nice spring day. Food and beverages were a bit below average but the environment bumped it up a notch. Go for the experience, not for lunch.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. Granted, it’s not beer heaven, but they have a solid selection of their own brews. What’s impressive is the concept and the facility itself. Amazing atmosphere. Friendly staff and good pub food.

We stayed here a few nights altogether, on our way into Oregon and back out again the following week. Easily the weirdest place we’ve ever stayed. Lots of character and lots of bars. Looks to stroll around and see, like a haunted elementary school with spooky artwork. A decent choice if you have kids, with chalkboards in the rooms, a wading pool and movie theater, but many of the bars are no-kids-allowed... which is pretty common in Oregon, as we learned. I wasn’t crazy about the beers but it was cool that you could bring them back to your room in growlers and mason jars. Food was above average and the breakfast in the main restaurant was well above that.

Super funky place that has to be visited, not for a beer geek value, but for the weirdness of it all. A brewpub in an old school, with hallways, pictures, cafeterias and bathrooms all authentic. Don’t expect anything more than the normal McMenamins lineup and have fun.

THe beers are not that exceptional although the raspberry beer is excellent for a very light fruity beer and I don’t usually like fruity beers. What I liked more was the Edgefield label whiskeys. They were better than the beers. The atmosphere is a little gloomy and dark. the main restaurant smells like a butchers shop. I stayed in a room and it was quirky and kinda weird. They have two little bars that would only hold about 6 people each. One offers cigar smoking. Oddly, they close at 10 pm. WTF? The place is dead by then. No wonder.

Visited on a Saturday night to see a movie and drink some quality McMenamins beer. The Ruby and the Hammerhead were both refreshing brews and the Terminator Stout was also tasty. Overall, the non-traditional bar/restaurant/movie theater layout makes for an extremely memorable night out and a must-visit while in the Portland area.

This place is mindblowingly unique. It is literally an old elementary school transformed into a lodge of sorts with a brewery in it. There are a couple of larger restaurants while there are three small, and I mean tiny, cozy bars which used to be a boiler a room, a detention hall, and something else I don’t recall. We got a pint in the detention bar and walked around the hallways. Some of the classrooms have been transformed into hotel rooms. There is a theater in one room where one can drink a beer and watch a movie. A heated pool is outside a window. All the strange artwork and photos and the tons of kids running around the halls makes for a headtrip. What a weird place.
