This is a brewerís dive bar. Go here, drink their fantastic beer, and quit yer bitchiní. $3 pints of probably just abuot the best beer in the northeast. Can you really complain?

Total dive bar. Dark and not at all busy when we were there on a Saturday evening. Smaller pours are available if youíre trying to tick. Other than that, there are plenty of draft-only selections, and the beer it self is decent. They also have board games to play. Really kind of an odd place that left me with no desire to ever go back.

Quirky seems to be the word of the day in these reviews, canít argue with that. Went their about 6 - 6:30 on a Saturday, one other person there but if you like beer, stop here. Donít be turned off by the outside, this isnít your up-scale Boston/NY brew pub with suits having $10 drafts, just a great little brew pub 5 minutes off I 91. A dozen + of there own drafts plus 3 cask brews, bartender was helpful, offered samples, answered questions. Only regret was we didnít have more time to try more beers. Absolutely would stop there again.

As I entered McNeils the patrons at the bar next door were lighting flares and throwing them into the street. A metaphor of things to come perhaps? Shockingly the place was deader than disco inside. I didnít t the scene. The bartender was pleasant enough. What annoyed me was the beer. They do t seem to brew anything to style. Sometimes you just want a Brown ale to taste like a brown ale and not a sour. I probably wouldnít go back if I was in the area again.

Iíve been coming here for years...and I guess Iím just used to the place. Yes it is quirky...but the beer is great...and if you are not in a rush...itís easy to strike up a great conversation with some of the locals. I recommend a visit here if in the area...easy to get to heading north on I91.

This is "must stop" whenever Iím in VT. The beer selection is good, the service is great, and the locals are colorful and friendly. This place is GREAT.

Stopped in here on a lazy afternoon and had a good time. The bartender was friendly, I thought the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Prices are definitely decent and itís very convenient to lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Quite a list of beers for a brewpub. I like the open space.

I was happy to be in Brattleboro and get to stop by McNeillís. Strange decor but that to be expected. I was in there in the middle of a week day so there wasnít really anyone there other than a few people and a couple of employees. Bartender was a nice guy. Great beers. Board games and darts. Spacious. Food is lacking. Great beer.

My wife and I did a little weekend trip to Brattleboro, Hill Farmstead, and Montreal. After checking into our hotel we went over to Keene NH to go to Elm City for dinner since it had looked from reviews like there was no food to be had here. Came back for a couple beers after the trip to Elm City. Definitely a local place, does have a bit of a dive bar feel to it, but I think itís more that it has a hippy college town feel to it. It was a Friday night in chunk of time between college letting out for the year and summer starting and it was just a smattering of locals at the bar that night besides us. Very laid back feel with everyone being on a first name basis with each other, bringing in homemade baked goods to share with the bartender and such. The beers were pretty solid and as they hadnít gone through bottling and distribution and were super fresh, the quality was great (have had a few infected bottles of theirs). An interesting place and a reasonable stop if youíre passing through.

July 28, 2011. After reading previous reviews, I was mentally ready to go there, WTF?! A dive, YES, but more then thas this place is like low income families living room and dining room. OK, I can get used to it and I know their beers are good, but the service is nonchalant. I go into the pub, no greeting just people who look at me. I sit at a table, but the bartender who was not really busy, except talking about everything and nothing, did not not even bothered to see me. So I go see him and ask him a beer and a food menu, no food except peanuts, I guess itís not everyday they have other things to eat then peanuts. But here where it getís crapy, the bartender suggested that I should good to the pub next door to eat! What? No "you can bring some food here" or "we got take out menus for you"? So I ate, about 25 miles north of Brattleboro. It will take alot to make me go back there!

Small, dark Vermont brewpub. Definitely a quirky, real vermont place. Lots of locals. Itís got character but itís also kind of dirty with spotty service. Not much food. The beers are generally good, but the stars are always the cask-conditioned beers--McNeillís does a great job with the casks.
