Very cool place to get a drink in New York, though this isn’t exactly a beer nerd place. They really only had two beers when I was there - golden and black. They were pouring two for one when I was there. Sawdust on floor and plenty of atmosphere in this, supposedly New York’s oldest bar. Would be a great atmosphere when full.

Mycket värt ett besök bara för den över 100 år gamla inredningen och sågspånet på golvet. Två olika öl att välja på. Mörkt eller ljust. Barsk servitör och ganska intetsägande mat.

This place should be a museum.’s_Old_Ale_House If you are looking only for great beer, don’t stop here, but if you like history and American Irish culture it is a must stop. In business since 1854 and has original memorabilia to from then. Chicken wish bones(most had to taken down by orders of the health department) are hung from the ceiling by soldiers departing for war with the idea that they’d take them down when they returned. Sawdust on the floor. The service people were Irish from Ireland. Choices of beer:light and dark(from a micro in upstate NY). Cheese & cracker plate was great - some of the best horseradish mustard that I’ve ever had. My recommendation:Please go there at least once! "Be good or Be gone."

Light or Dark? Don’t look for a beer list...cause all they serve is "Beer or Ale", whatever that means. Regardless, four beers for $11!!!! Granted, you get a glass stein (who knows how big, maybe 14oz?) with PLENTY of head, actually almost half head. The beer is "eh?", and probably comparable to PBR. Service is FAST and keep the drinks coming. I wasn’t even finished and had more on the table. Sawdust everywhere, reminiscent of the "good ol’ days". Overall, a nice place to stop in and drink plenty.

Terrific atmosphere. Just two draught beers available, light and dark, but it’s more the overall expereince you come for. Great place to get a big table with friends.

First beer place I visited in NY January 2003. Very nice atmosphere - cats, oven, wooden bar. We had so much fun here. Although I can’t remember the beer quality, I definitely will come back once.

What everyone else said about atmosphere and beer. One of my favorite bar service stories happened here. I was in town long before i moved here on business and was taken here. It was packed. No seats or much in the way of standing room... impossible to get a drink. But we gave a server a $100 bill and said we wanted it all in beer right away. He went over to a table of guys who looked like they weren’t going to do too much more damage and just told them to get up and leave. They did, pissed off of course. We sat down and then they filled out entire table with $100 of beer. Awesome.
